That's true, the build quality leaves a lot to be desired and the shortcuts they took such as simply gluing on crucial parts of sheet metal is rather annoying when it comes to DIY work as the car ages. However, I consider myself an outlier who still daily drives and maintains cars that are ~20 years old. Most people now, even on here, lease and/or trade in their cars for new ones, so a Tesla would be the best EV if one is looking for a well rounded package. Slate's DIY friendly focus is so radically different from what every other company is doing, which deserves all the kudos if they follow through.I think software, battery management, and motors are the best parts of Teslas. The rest of the build is less than stellar. Interior fit and finish, suspension, and ride quality are all pretty bad (although some people love the front seats). A used five year old Tesla feels more like a 10 year old car.
I thought about adding Cybertruck to the chart but giving it a “Not a Ford” star seems like more than it deserves.
