While I think Slate's relationship with Amazon is typically overstated (lots of references to Jeff Bezos) it can be understated as well.

There's a lot of Amazon DNA in the company. The company originated as "Re:Car," a project within Re:Build Manufacturing, which was co-founded by Jeff Wilke, the former CEO of Amazon’s worldwide consumer business.

There are also former Amazon employees in Slates leadership team.
