Does anyone know if you could place one's cellphone horizontally in the smartphone holder? And not have fingers blocking the screen?

All the pictures I see show a vertical phone.

It’s likely because the Slate App is designed around a 9x16 aspect ratio. Also most phone mounts are optimized for vertical orientation. We don’t know yet if you can change it to horizontal but I do think the best configuration will be vertically.

Slate Auto Pickup Truck Smartphone orientation? 1759798629444-

From the media shown in various sources, your iPad will mount in landscape mode. The Slate app will most likely orient itself to landscape mode. Meaning that the charging cable must be routed to either side.

I don't know that we've seen final versions of the mounts. One source said they were trying to have 1 universal phone mount, but it's also been seen as having one fixed side and one adjustable, which can be an issue depending on where the charging connection and microphone are on the phone.
