Just wanted to share some info on a project I’ve been working on for a DIY infotainment system for my Slate Truck. Only the screen and cable is visible currently, but looking to hide the cable at a later date.

Currently has a custom processing unit with just power in and optional phone in for a wired connection/ charging. The. A single cable to the display. The display has speakers in built and is just over 10” diagonal.

The plan is to attach rail strip to the bottom rear of the screen to attached to the Slate Truck’s rail in the cabin.

If you have any questions, leave a comment.

Thank you!

Why not just go with a standard double din stereo? Some have large screens and can be had with wireless CarPlay, xm radio, etc. if we do get a Slate that’s our plan; go to Crutchfield and find a decent stereo with CarPlay and hopefully a real volume knob.

Slate has said in some vids that they’ll design accommodations for a double din stereo in the dash area.

They generally max out at 7”, I don’t like the buttons on them too. I just wanted to create something that looked like it came with it.

Just a fun project.

That's a cool project. Do you have a github? It seems you're using only apple tablets? Wouldn't android be more ubiquitous and open source friendly?

Does anyone know if Slate will have an App that will display all vehicle info on an iPad mounted on the dash? Something like a virtual dashboard?
