CarPlay (Explain it like I am five)

I think it depends on the speakers. Some speakers, like the stock ones that came in the BMW E38 are made with a paper diaphragm so almost all of them by now have rotted away. In contrast the stock speakers in my E53 are a tougher plastic based material and still woof real strong. I'm no...

Dashboard Speakers DO NOT come standard, and more audio options in the works [confirmed]

That's great news Slate is considering provisions for more speakers, but they shouldn't get too carried away. If the moulds for the dash mounted speakers have already gone through the prototyping stages and is nearing production, best to keep it KISS.

Double Din Car Stereo Aftermarket Head Unit / Radio Capable (confirmed by Slate CEO)

I have an Android phone so screen size isn't an issue. That said I always take my phone out of my pocket when I get in cars. Do you always keep your phone in your pocket? I feel that would be pretty uncomfortable.

Could Slate compete with a Toyota Stout 2 door?

I'll believe it once I see it at a dealership listed for sale.

    NFC Phone As A Key

I'm not super familiar with the way other cars use the phone app to verify ownership of your vehicle when locking and unlocking, but this thread has me thinking that using some form of 2FA tied to the NFC radio on phones could be a FOSS means to authenticate ownership through phones. An app like...

    Dash cam power

A main 12v accessory bus with fuses of your choosing below the passenger dash area, above the glove box section would be ideal for adding custom electronics. Prewiring going to the rearview mirror would add more complications than needs to be. I get annoyed dealing with the wiring for the rain...

Playing devil's advocate here, comparing Slate Truck vs. Ford Maverick

Ford having made the Maverick is the exact reason why I'm not considering the Maverick. I don't trust Ford for anything when they can't even get their main sports car, the Mustang, right. A few years ago before I bought my Civic Si 10th gen, I was cross shopping a Mustang S550 Ecoboost and GT...

Confirmed: keyless entry, push-to-start, remote climate control & lock/unlock via app

This subscription talk of having features of a car as a service is rather nauseating. I really hope Slate doesn't do any of this. If they do, it's simply further reason to "hack" the OBCs on EVs and make them FOSS. That's the only way we, as end users truly own the device we paid our hard earned...

Double Din Car Stereo Aftermarket Head Unit / Radio Capable (confirmed by Slate CEO)

Do you really need Carplay though? I was in the same boat as you when I was deep down low in modifying my E46 and thought I absolutely had to have an Android auto/apple carplay head unit, but I soon found that all I needed is bluetooth for audio. I don't need to stare at a map all the time and I...

Slate work truck / contractor truck unloaded & displayed in Long Beach CA

Whoever is doing the marketing with those fictional companies on those dummy trucks is doing a good job. Let's hope the actual truck for the general public happens sometime soon and doesn't remain on a hype train, never materialized for a decade like it has with Aptera.

Sound bar - factory mounting location under dashboard

I was temporarily using one of those cylindrical bluetooth speakers that fit in the cupholder of my old A4 because the car didn't have bluetooth. The sound was acceptable but it wasn't true stereo. Nothing beats having actual right and left channels and standard 6.5in woofers + tweeters.

Alternative spare tire option / location for pickup truck variants

How about a spare tire mount on the side of the bed similar to that of vintage cars from the interwar years? It would jut out so I'm not sure a side mount would be legal though.

Do we know if Slate is on this forum?

I think that road will lead down to pointless market research and "focus groups" that end up resulting in generic and uninspiring products you see from GM. It reminds me of those funny parody videos on youtube where this guy who looks like Mark Whalberg mocks the Chevy real people ads.

Do we know if Slate is on this forum?

This forum is third party. There are many forums that use this same forum software (xenforo I believe) and all the big automotive forums have sorta formed a consortium. I transferred my account from the Honda civicx forum. Scout Motors however has created an official forum for their community...

Why Doug DeMuro Thinks the Slate Truck Will Fail

I like the 2 doors because it's 2 fewer windows to worry about and less weight. I already have a 4 door SUV for carrying more people.

Why Doug DeMuro Thinks the Slate Truck Will Fail

I used to watch Doug Demuro's videos quite often as I found his car "reviews" informative and entertaining. However, it suddenly dawned on me that most of his opinions are just that, opinions that don't apply to many normal people who use the car on the daily. He would nitpick really trivial...

    Seats comfort / quality

Hopefully the seat mount is pretty flexible because if the stock seat is poorly made with no support or lumbar, I'll yoink a E46 sport seat and put in the truck. By far the E46 sport seats are still one of the most comfortable seats ever.

    Electric Motor - JJE Technologies

The Chinese origins of the motor isn't a bad thing. I feel the tariff issue is main hurdle with it. China is doing the most innovation in the realm of EVs and has years of experience manufacturing motors from the likes of small computer fans to large induction motors. Like most manufacturers...

Double Din Car Stereo Aftermarket Head Unit / Radio Capable (confirmed by Slate CEO)

That would be some smart engineering and in the spirit of BMW from the 90s. BMW used to integrate the FM and key fob antennas in the rear window with the heating element to create a sleek and elegant profile with no metal antenna going up and down.
