Sadly the dream has already died for me

Agreed. The young hipster target segment for Slate has no memory of the ā€˜80s. Personally, the only thing I want back from the ā€˜70s is the music.

    Cargo Kit

That’s definitely a Cargo Kit. I’m not sure if that is a wrapped rear glass panel or solid panel. I’m pretty sure the topper can be ordered either way.

Sadly the dream has already died for me

Are you saying that the Slate should not have ECUs? I suppose if we were living in the ā€˜70s this would be the case. But we’re not. That battery requires management software. So do almost all the safety features. The Slate may be simple, but it still requires some tech in order to operate and to...

Slate production factory is former printing plant in Warsaw, Indiana

I don’t know if Scout received Federal subsidies, but I’m pretty sure they got hefty ones from the state of South Carolina.

Question about future models / variants

And yet the Accord, Camry, Sonata, and Civic sell pretty well…mostly in hybrid form. VW still sells the Jetta and GLI. Ford gave up on cars, but only because other auto makers were kicking their ass in that segment.

Dashboard Speakers DO NOT come standard, and more audio options in the works [confirmed]

Dash mount is standard. For SUV, I’m sure they are looking at rear speaker mounts either in the bed (behind the second row of seats) or on the roll bar. Good news about Slate looking at the doors for optional speakers. Crutchfield is drooling…

New book published: "The $20K Electric Vehicle Revolution: How Slate’s Affordable Truck Is Powering the Future of Mobility"

Someone has been pitching this "write books with AI and publish on Amazon" scheme on social media for awhile now. Apparently quite a few people are taking advantage of the opportunity. Caveat emptor.

    Door vent wing windows

I eventually both moved and sold the GTI. :)

    Door vent wing windows

I had them in my old GTI. Actually not operable…just a fixed glass triangle. No ventilation, but great for letting people break into my car in Boston. No thanks.

Confirmed: keyless entry, push-to-start, remote climate control & lock/unlock via app

It’s entirely possible that Slate is testing the waters on offering app related features via subscription. Keep in mind that Slate is all about giving people what they need as standard with wanted options being available for an additional cost. Remote start via an app on your phone is not...

CarPlay (Explain it like I am five)

You really need speakers in the doors for both stereo separation and low frequency (bass) performance. I’d rather have tweeters in the corners of the top of the dash than speakers in the front of the dash.

CarPlay (Explain it like I am five)

I use a Carmount magnetic holder in my FJ. Phone is an iPhone SE and always connected over Bluetooth. Head unit is the upgraded JBL OEM unit with CD player. Outstanding sound.

Double Din Car Stereo Aftermarket Head Unit / Radio Capable (confirmed by Slate CEO)

I’m with you. Completely weaned off CarPlay and don’t miss it one bit.

Beta test Slate truck prototypes (video)

Scout had a bit of a head start. It’s also a more mainstream vehicle. I’m sure the Scout marketing budget is more than 3x the Slate budget.

Playing devil's advocate here, comparing Slate Truck vs. Ford Maverick

Or ā€œICEMANā€ because, you know, not Maverick.

Beta test Slate truck prototypes (video)

Nope, but my Scout reservation was made first. The Scout was going to replace my FJ. The Slate is in addition to my FJ. I’ve only seen two Scout betas, one for each body style.

Playing devil's advocate here, comparing Slate Truck vs. Ford Maverick

Like I said on another thread, a lot of these reviewers just want another Maverick not made by Ford. Maybe I’ll get a custom nameplate that says ā€œNOT A FORDā€.

Playing devil's advocate here, comparing Slate Truck vs. Ford Maverick

Another car ā€œexpertā€ that thinks the Slate is a family vehicle that is missing features (only two doors, no second row of seats). The Slate is not a family vehicle unless your family consists of two people. Go Cargo Kit and think about how much room your dog(s) is going to have in the back.

    Sliding rear window?

In the TFL vid, the Slate rep said the glass would have gas struts. Not sure that would keep it open while driving but it will keep it open while loading.
