I’m starting to get the feeling a lot of people see an 80s style truck and expect 80s style tech, “back when they made cars the right way”.
Those days are long gone.
Not really sure there’s any value other than “nostalgia”. Any efficiency gain from not running the AC will likely be offset by the drag created. Not to mention it’s worse than AC, and an additional cost.
I think its a fair question on the value proposition. What can a Maverick do that a Slate can't, and what can a Slate do that a Maverick can't?
The only argument I see is that Slate is an EV....
People on this forum will try to say “the slate isn’t competing with the maverick” but the fact of the matter is, customers look for value. And pound for pound the maverick wins by a landslide
I'd assuming the analytics will output to the phone via bluetooth or wired connection. Just like an OBD.
To your second point, many will probably agree. I personally find value in it, but other's may not. I can cancel whenever I would like, and still choose to keep paying!
I think the only reason it makes headlines is due to the market saturation of EV startups.
“EV Startup promises sub $20k Truck” doesn’t get the same clicks as it does when you put Jeff’s name in there.
First hand, I’ve worked for Amazon as well as a “bezos backed startup”. His impact at Amazon...
I’m skeptical that they even “confirmed” this. I’m ~95% sure they stated the car would not even have internet connectivity, and updated would come through your phone. That would make remote start via a phone app impossible.
That being said, I’ve had remote connectivity on my car for ~4 years...
Lots of other EVs, yes.
I can’t think of one that doesn’t offer a subscription though. Maybe there is one, can’t think of any off the top of my head
I’ll sum it up really easily for you. You don’t need a subscription to drive a car. Many modern cars offer a subscription for WiFi connectivity. This allows you to use features like remote start, locating the car, etc.
No different than paying for internet at your home, or data on your phone
There are a hundred things that can go wrong every time I drive to work. Doesn’t mean I don’t do it every day!
The tech is already available in over 300 cars. Clearly the approach is wider than you see
