Brakes and suspension. Although with one-pedal/regen the brakes should last a good long time. Maybe CV joints/axles over time. Power steering fluid. No diff, transmission, or transfer case maintenance. Oh yeah, kiss those pesky oil changes goodbye too.
Currently, EV owners in Washington pay an annual registration fee of $225, which includes a $150 fee intended to offset the gas tax that EV drivers don’t pay. No mileage tracking yet although a Road Usage Charge is being considered to replace the gas tax and EV fee.
Maybe a double din head unit mounting kit (complete with wiring harness) will get added to the accessory portfolio. It’s something I would think about getting along with some nice speakers and a sub under the passenger seat.
Don’t those other markets already have small trucks? The VW Saviero, Fiat Strada, and Mazda BT-50 come to mind. Of course none of those are EVs, none convert from a truck to a SUV, and none have just two doors nor a practical bed. Let’s hope our global trade CF gets resolved by the time Slate is...
Spot on. Small businesses will eat this up while fleet demand will drive more sales…that sales group in Slate is going to be key, if not already. I never see more than two people in a work truck or van.
A key goal Chris shared is profitability by end of 2027 at about 150K units sold. Tesla took seven years. I wonder where reservations are relative that number…
AM sports radio is just about the only reason I switch the radio on. For FM it’s NPR for jazz, news, and All Things Considered. Otherwise I can stream any music I can find on FM and do it without commercials.
The SUV/Cargo topper ships flat which means the top panel and sides are independent parts. I doubt there will be an alternative roof for the cab, but an alternative roof (top panel) for the topper could be interesting. Why not have an option that is partially fabric and folds back? While you’re...
Something like this could be very interesting, assuming it can be mounted to the Slate dash and the backup camera feed can be connected to it. For me, I am most likely just going with my phone as that is what I am using now and have been for the last two years...completely weaned off CarPlay.
There’s a four button Bluetooth module for the right side of the steering wheel that controls audio. Just needs a center button toggle to switch between audio, driver mirror, and passenger mirror. :)
Or if you are going SUV, get the roof rack and mount solar panels up there. Either way, space constraints will limit charge wattage…possibly better used to top off a small capacity portable power station than the Slate battery.
Is the Slate side mirror adjustable inside a fixed body mount housing or is the mirror housing adjustable on a fixed stalk (like my motorcycle mirrors)? If motorized, the former is preferred. If manual, the latter. My motorcycle mirrors are a lot easier to adjust than manual car mirrors…
This is great…very thorough. A few observations:
1) the Slate spare tire is not included standard. I know several manufacturers have started moving in this direction. At least Slate has thought about how a spare can be carried and for me, mounting on the back is preferred.
2) Love the choice...
