Is there official word on where Slate stands on "Right to Repair"?

Agreed. Brakes should last a good long time with one-pedal/regen braking. Most of the things on my list should last at least 100K miles before servicing. How many miles do you think the battery will last before needing to be replaced?

Is there official word on where Slate stands on "Right to Repair"?

Brakes, suspension, steering, tires. Maybe CVs and wheel bearings. That’s it.

100K+ Reservations for Slate Truck already! (as of May 12, 2025)

It’s interesting. To me, Slate in a lot of ways is going backwards. Back to simpler vehicles not forward to more complex ones like the rest of the auto industry. It doesn’t surprise me at all that Slate might choose a different battery tech than where the industry is headed. Toyota is bucking...

I'm still trying to decide if the Cybertruck just wasn't one big PR stunt for Elon.

Why Doug DeMuro Thinks the Slate Truck Will Fail

My point is that despite his wealth, Jeff Bezos is careful with his money. If you know anything about how Amazon started and the ritual of employees building their own desks at the Beacon Hill HQ, you'd agree with me. He's tight with his money.

Why Doug DeMuro Thinks the Slate Truck Will Fail

I disagree. The base Slate as delivered offers tremendous value for the right buyer. The price is low. It transports people safely on the highway. It includes airbags and cruise control. It is low cost to maintain. Its fuel is lower cost than gas. It will carry a stack of 4x8 sheets. Its easy to...

Why Doug DeMuro Thinks the Slate Truck Will Fail

When you are offering slight upgrades on existing products, how much research do you think goes into that kind of thinking? Slate is questioning the whole direction of the auto industry and to do that requires a HUGE amount of research to back up that level of bravery. Jeff Bezos is a very smart...

Why Doug DeMuro Thinks the Slate Truck Will Fail

Good point, however I think people define personal value differently. What seems lacking in value to Doug, might offer plenty of value to someone else. That someone else is the target for the Slate.

Double Din Car Stereo Aftermarket Head Unit / Radio Capable (confirmed by Slate CEO)

I'm hopeful that there will be an antenna option for the topper. Wire it up in the same chase as the third brake light wiring.

Why Doug DeMuro Thinks the Slate Truck Will Fail

If you have enough people say it fits their needs perfectly, then you have a market. Just because it hasn't been identified yet by Big Auto (or Doug Demuro) doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Secret Slatelet dash badge page - download 3D print Slatelet

There is more to the rubber ducks thing with Jeeps than just collecting them. The idea is that Jeep owners carry around a bag of them and when they see another Jeep they like, they leave a rubber duck on the driver side front tire. Its just another way of collecting "likes".

5-Seat SUV conversion kit? Or sticking to pickup only?

I'm pretty sure the cab bulkhead needs to be relocated for either of the toppers (straight or fastback) to be attached. What I'm not sure about is if the topper requires the relocated bulkhead to be attached in order to be structurally stable...it might. Not sure how they are going to reuse the...

5-Seat SUV conversion kit? Or sticking to pickup only?

The FAQs list a Cargo Kit body style option. I’m assuming that’s the SUV topper with no seats, airbags, or roll bar. Glass or solid side panels. The cab rear partition (with third brake light and glass) gets relocated to the rear of the topper. There must be a wiring harness for the light...

    Foldable Soft top

I just noticed in the 3D digital model used for Maker that the SUV topper has two separate lateral joints. One is where the topper meets the cab roof, the other is toward the rear at the end of the roof rack mounting rails. This has me wondering why that second joint is in the model. It doesn't...

One-Pedal Driving confirmed for Slate truck

I engine brake my AT FJ as much as possible and did the same with every manual car I’ve ever owned…there has been quite a few. I kinda think of regen braking the same way…let the motor slow the vehicle instead of applying friction brakes.

The Slate Truck Needs A Four-Door Version!

I owned a 1989 5-speed, 2-door Montero and loved it. A lot like this Raider but two-tone gray and silver. Nice and boxy just like the Slate. Fantastic in snow and off road. I think the back seat got used once the entire time I owned it.

Key fob customizations - colors and screwdriver

I noticed that too. I doubt it needs to go in the dash slot to turn the vehicle on, but I like the idea especially if you add the leather dongle thing to the fob. Adds a little color to the interior as well.

12V Accessory Bus Bar / AUX Switch Array

We know the Slate will have step-down voltage power for at least one device and based on what the CEO said in her recent interview, for a double din head unit as well. It makes sense that having a 12V fuse block and negative ground bus bar would be included...most likely located behind the dash...
