From looking at the California DMV page, it looks like if it has an open bed, and is under certain weights, it is a pickup truck. It's based on it being designed to transport property.
Only gets out of commercial if it has a camper shell permanently attached.
Looks like the registration fee...
A second production facility has already been mentioned, probably depends on how fast they get one online, and how different that model is. There might just be some frame and wiring differences, with much of the line shared.
In California, the dealer prints paper plates, and the DMV mails the metal ones to the customer. I'm assuming slate will somehow have the paper ones for you when you pick the truck up/have it delivered.
Exactly. awd/4wd with a bigger battery will probably be the NEXT thing slate does. As soon as design is finalized and production is going, the design team will probably switch to that as the second model. But first they are concentrating on getting the FIRST model out. They seem to have plenty...
You just don't want to tow a vehicle in regen. Got to either have a way to disengage at the hub or motor, or use a dolly or trailer. Any regen means more gas being used, inefficiently, to generate that power. It's going to be like towing a car with the parking brake on.
Exactly. While with slate, it looks like you could add the roof rack and 2 towers, and be able to easily put on some rails and add a good amount of panels, the added weight and drag would probably negate any charging you'd get, unless you are only driving like 5 miles a day, no freeway speed...
How do tesla and others deal with it?
Most states are going to require Slate to collect sales tax if they have sales tax.
Looking up how Rivian does it, it looks like they do handle title and registration as part of the digital experience.
Probably quicker than that. I'm expecting that slate will be releasing detailed dimensions suitable for CAD and generating 3d printable parts before launch, and people will be printing panels before they have a truck to test fit it in.
Did you read the terms when you made your reservation?
My interpretation of this, before I even made my reservation, was that we are accepting that delivery date depends not only on when we reserved, but slate's convenience on the location. If there is a snowstorm going through part of the...
Few Ferrari owners drive them as a daily driver.
Part of the point here is many of us are choosing the slate because it isn't a 4 door truck with a hood at least 4 feet off the ground. The slate is light enough and efficient enough to actually be a reasonable daily driver. If I was given a...
Sales tax and registration fees depend on the state.
Documentation fee is charged by a dealer to process the paperwork, some states limit it, so it might vary. Hopefully with no dealers and only 2 base models with different batteries, slate will have the paperwork automated and not charge much...
It's not a great family car if it's the only car. Most families have more than 1, so one can be the SUV the whole family fits in, and the 2nd car a slate.
On the other hand, with the SUV kit, it could also be the first car. I don't see that kicking off big at first though.
I think once it's in full production and open orders, it may become popular as a first car unless other things change. The price is now lower than the average used car, and the lowest priced used cars I think are getting worse and worse for reliability.
Kid in high school or even going to...
It's the many commuters driving to work, no carpool, probably an office job so nothing in the bed, they probably never have put anything in the bed, in big 4 door trucks, often with 4wd, lifted, and knobby tires, on the freeway going 80 mph, day in and day out that is wasteful. Too shiny to have...
If anything in the law or rules requires a timely response, you've got to hold them to it, keep records of everything, if their delays cost you money like with solar, excessive delays might mean monetary compensation.
If AWD/4x4 is a dealbreaker, then don't worry about slate for now, check back after launch or if you see an announcement that it's available as an add on, which seems unlikely before launch.
With it likely being winter at launch, and dealerless, I can see them arranging deliveries around the weather. If your area has a snowstorm, they don't send a batch of trucks to your area, they go to the next on the list. I think the disclaimers when reserving cover this, along with they will...
OK, I figured out where I misread at the panel, for some reason the pair of main breakers are in the middle, 100 amps each.
Still probably have to get work done though, 1-15 amp breaker supplies a GFCI outlet in a restroom, that then feeds another restroom, a back porch outlet, and 3 in garage...
