If the Slate PU came only as an ICE, I would buy one.

How would I know? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'd be interested to know why ICEVs break down 6x as frequently compared to EVs when you disregard LVB and tire issues. The article was about German motorists. Turns out UK motorists have the same results. Go figure! To quote Lee Puffett, Managing Director of...

Thanks for pointing that out! We know statistics for two categories they have in common. What happens when you remove those breakdowns an re-compare?... 12-volt batteries were the issue in 50 percent of the breakdowns for EVs and 45 percent of the breakdowns for combustion cars, so we can...

This Australian writer thinks we're entering the post-bling era of cars. She could be right! Because simplicity. The article says EVs break down and need roadside assistance less than half as frequently (4.2 vs 10.4).

Didn't consider regen braking wearing out rear tires more. FWIW, the article was about breakdowns, not fast-vs-slow tire wear. Curiously, it also said this about the EV tire issues: "It’s worth pointing out that newer EVs do not seem to suffer from the same problem."

If the Slate PU came only as an ICE, I would buy one.

Here's an interesting article where they found EVs to be vastly more reliable than ICEVs. The most common issue for both types of propulsion was the same: the 12-volt batteries. The issue with more problems for EVs is tires, which I don't think would apply to the Slate at 3,600 pounds with a 200...

If the Slate PU came only as an ICE, I would buy one.

Federal law mandates that electric vehicle (EV) batteries must be covered by a warranty for at least eight years or 100,000 miles, so there's that. Yes, precisely. Removing high complexity and replacing it with different, but significantly lower complexity. Trying to design and manufacture...

DIY vs OFT (Open For Theft)

If the Slate PU came only as an ICE, I would buy one.

Maybe the reason I'm ICE-cautious is because of a past experience with an unproven new engine design. My '89 Dodge Raider had a Chrysler 3.0L V6 engine with a valve guide defect that, years into ownership, caused the engine to consume oil. More importantly, there was a looming possibility of...

New base-model Teslas have no radio

I think 2-way speakers in the door with the mid/bass drivers down low and the tweeters in up high near the A-Pillars would work well, or at least adequately. For music lovers a powered subwoofer is almost mandatory IMHO. The eyes in the room are all lookin' at the star The butts are all...

Documentary: How a Slate beats the heat (hot weather testing / towing)

Where I live 104°F isn't considered "extreme". I've owned cars with A/C that works fine at 104°F but struggles at higher temperatures. The Phoenix metro area is called "The Valley of the Sun" for a reason. This year's record-high day was 118°F.

What they're using for headlights appear to have LEDs for the light source. In the recent video I can't tell of these are Daytime Running Lights or if the headlights are turned on. I'm guessing the latter because the amber lights are lit.
