Jeff Bezos's $25,000 EV Truck Has One Fatal Flaw • Jeff Jablansky | MotoMan Podcast 006

There's at least one, attributed to Einstein: "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler."

If the Slate PU came only as an ICE, I would buy one.

By my rough calculations an EV Truck would cost at least $1,000 less per year to operate. That's not my main reason for saying "no-go" on an ICEV version though. No amount of engineering and design brilliance on the part of a startup could pull off a perfect (or, to be fair, let's say...

Jeff Bezos's $25,000 EV Truck Has One Fatal Flaw • Jeff Jablansky | MotoMan Podcast 006

That's way easier said than done. Radical Simplicity doesn't work that way. Five colors would require be five times the replacement body panel SKUs. Replacement panels in those colors probably wouldn't match body panels that have been out in the weather for a few years anyway. If a wrap is...

This AI Overview describes the Secure Key Ignition Module pretty well, assuming it's not hallucinating. The Secure Key Ignition Module is a proprietary security feature of the Slate Truck designed to prevent unauthorized vehicle access and starting. Unlike conventional push-to-start systems or...

Taller 17" All-Terrain Tires for OEM Wheels

Slate displayed a Truck with 265/70R17 tires on wider-than-stock aftermarket wheels. The stock wheels won't be the ideal width for this size, but it'll fit. +2.1" size (stock 265/65R17 plus 2.1 in diameter) 265/70R17 (31.6"x10.4") - Speedo Error: 53.6 @ 50mph (7.1%) BFGoodrich All-Terrain...

If the Slate PU came only as an ICE, I would buy one.

ICE would be a no-go for me because the likelihood that a startup could somehow create a well-executed reliable ICEV from scratch seems.extremely low. OTOH, designing and creating an EV from scratch seems far more achievable.

The Truck will have a not-so-dumb "Secure Key Ignition Module" where you insert the key fob into a slot in the dashboard.

New base-model Teslas have no radio

I the Rich Rebuilds video Slate's head of engineering said they expect people to put insane sound systems in the Truck. I expect the doors to be designed so they'll accommodate speakers.

    Welcome to our Beta facility

I agree that aggressive leveling kits (e.t. 2.5" front-ony lift on an F-150) are over the top. I don't think this would be the same thing though. Trucks used to have less rake and they were fine that way.

    Welcome to our Beta facility

A single inch extra squat under a heavy load isn't concerning. The vast majority of the time the bed will be empty and it will still have a modest amount of rake.

    Welcome to our Beta facility

I doubt the Lowering Kit reduces the load capacity.

    Welcome to our Beta facility

I wonder if that amount of rake is what the Truck will actually have. I plan on turning the Lowering Kit into a Leveling Kit by only lowering the rear. Looks to me like one inch lower in the rear would be about perfect.

New touring event dates are up on the Slate Events page!

Enthusiasm toward EVs isn't the important thing to consider. Slate's CEO says "the EV is the least interesting thing about it", and I agree that being electric isn't the most important aspect of the Truck. The Truck's innovation lies in its simplicity, customizable design, and affordability...
