I think the Slate will have above-average snow-driving capability.
I had a VW Beetle (rear-engine OG Beetle, not a New Beetle) with snow tires. It handled snow like a champ. Kinda makes sense when you consider it was engineered in Germany where it snows.
I expect the speedometer accuracy to be adjustable via the app.
I put the speedo data in there as a proxy so you can know how different the alternative diameters are from stock, if that makes sense.
Double it to get the percentage. For the 235/75R17 tire it's roughly 4.8% off because the...
I don't think the specific tire make and model has been determined yet. Just the size.
A typical 245/65R17 (29.5x9.6) All-Season tire weighs about 34 pounds on average, at least among several I looked up during the weekend.
I noticed the weights varied far less among the All-Season tires...
I went searching for alternative tires that fit on the 16x7 OEM wheel.
Here's some cut-and-paste information I found. It's by no means exhaustive. I only looked at three brands, BFG because they're popular, Falken because of what @cvollers wrote in another thread, and Toyo because I prefer...
@Cody posted an image showing a 245/75R17 tire on a Slate alloy wheel and it got me wondering...
The configurator says the Lift Kit provides "the chance to include 32" tires". (I have some doubts about that. What specific 32" tire size can be included?)
Fitting a bigger and heavier tire will...
I'm overthinking it too. :) I'm about to start a separate thread on this very topic, but specifically for 17" tires. TL;DR: Bigger, heavier tires contribute to unsprung weight, increase rotational mass (they're harder to spin up and slow down), and change effective gearing by reducing...
The Slate isn't a Family Car. It an Economy Car with a Pickup Truck form factor. Maybe I'm (confirmation) biased, but I think a lot of people want just that.
I've owned two small 2-door pickups and both of them served me well.
Incidentally, there's more to cost-of-ownership than just sticker...
I did some investigating and determined 16" wheels would be even better. I intend to start a thread about what I discovered.
I submitted a question to Slate and will include that in the new thread. (The reply said fitting 16" wheels is possible.)
The configurator claims it's possible to "include 32 tires" with the Lift Kit option. I have my doubts about how that would work out. Anyone who tries that is likely to be disappointed what effects that will have on performance, range, suspension wear, etc. due to heavy unsprung weight and lots...
What I want to know are the specifications of the tires and, more importantly, the wheels.
Tires:
17" Standard Tire
17" All-Terrain Tire
20" Standard Tire
20" All-Terrain Tire
20" Low-Profile Tire
Wheels:
17" Steel Wheel
17" Alloy Wheel
20" Alloy Wheel
Wheel specifications should be...
Thank you for mentioning this because I was wondering how much towing affects range.
You're supposed to keep the battery's state-of-charge above 20% and below 80%, so brand new batteries provide 90 or 144 miles of range as a practical matter. 40% less range would mean 60% of those numbers, so...
That's what I imagine, but I'm no expert. My EV experience is limited to a 48V electric golf cart.
Hauling a heavy load uphill takes the cart out of its Happy Place. I notice it straining, but maybe it's just my imagination because I'm accustomed to being able to downshift and the cart, similar...
