Having driven twenty-six years for Uncle Sam´s circus I have some experience with blind spots. On the residential LLV delivery vehicles, depending on configuration, you have between seven and eight mirrors, plus whatever stickons you might put on yourself (unauthorized but not discouraged). You learn to use them! Everyday at loadout you were expected to do a vehicle walk-around and check your lights and mirrors. I hated it when someone else used ´my´ vehicle. I would have to re-set my mirrors. After a while, you ´grow´ vehicle awareness.
In the USPS, no matter what happened, if you were in an accident, you were at fault. . .
Unofficial USPS motto: If it stands still long enough, we´ll back into it.

Cheat Sheet for setting your Mirrors to minimize/avoid blindspots:

Drivers Side:

  1. Rest your you HEAD on the Drives side Window. Basically, cock your head to the left.
  2. Adjust the Mirror so you just barely see the side of the car.
  3. Blind Spot more or less gone depending on vehicle size/type
Passengers Side:
  1. Move / Lean your head & upper body to the Right. Keep your back against the seat.
You head should be somewhat aligned with the left corner of your center rear-view mirror.
  2. Adjust Mirror so you just barely see the side of the car.
  3. Blind Spot more or less gone depending on vehicle size/type.
Optionally: Add a blind spot bubble/convex mirror to your mirror.

To this day, I have never used the Backup Camera on our more modern cars, and have similary caught "Mistakes" the computer BSM would have caused an issue. BSM is awful when two cars simultaneously enter a middle lane.
