I’m considering getting one of these Car Play screens when my Slate arrives. I’ll have the built-in Bluetooth speaker in the dash and I think this might be a great solution. Does anyone have experience with these units?

Thinking an in dash unit for Android Auto eventually. But I'm kind of happy with a big phone at the moment in my current ride. And might pursue the din slot for an FM radio, Something simple. Think slate said there is space for a double din. Maybe someone like crutchfield will have a solution for FM and carplay and Android that could be retrofitted in the slots... as it rolls around into next year. And I'm sure these forums are going to have piles of people cutting holes and stuffing things with links once they're in the hands of people. Mostly I think I would just get the truck in hand and then take it from there....

It’s hard not to plan ahead knowing the Slate is blank ;-) The possibilities are limitless.

I've had nothing but good luck from my carpuride products, and I've used them for a few different applications now: put them in an old Chevy traverse that had nothing but a CD player and radio, put them in the back of pickup trucks for a tailgate setup/drive-drive in movie sound system, even stuck one in my kids treehouse that was powered off of solar and a 12v battery. No issues, other than they used to be cheaper, but you still get quite a bit for the $$$, and don't have to deal with taking it out due to the heat. That's my .02.

For fun, bought one of these. It just works, no obvious Android boot up or fat OS. Has RCA outputs… will be putting in some old Fosgate tech once I swap out the caps. Will get all new speakers… I sure hope there is room in the doors for 6.5” (doing components) with amps in the back or under seat. Will have a 12” in a sealed box, only installing 600 watts. Have most of the hardware from old installs… why not.

If this doesn’t work out I’ll get a double din Alpine with all the whistles. I did upgrade my radios in other cars with big screens. Other than for maps… lil screens are fine.

Was thinking the same thing and have been bookmarking items on Amazon. Looking at the motorcycle ones to see if there are smaller screen sized units. Smallest I could find was 5inches.
Mount this on the T-Rail and Bob’s your uncle.

I'm hoping once slate is out, they can make one that fits in the storage panel. Something like the image below.

Agree I just hope the location is well established and there is a nice trim dash panel for it. I don’t mind cutting one, just need to make sure to take the original out and put in a sacrificial if I gotta cut it myself.

Great question: I was quoting the gibberish that I hear my kids say to their friends. From what I’ve gathered, it loosely means that I secretly like the nerdy idea of using a small computer for this purpose but I can’t really admit to that because I would not want to negatively impact my reputation as an attractive person. I’d probably be better at translating Sanskrit.
Haha got you. I understood what you meant just wanted to be sure haha

That’s great feedback and feel the same. Trying to keep the ‘slate’ vibe simple solutions.
