what do you mean???
Great question: I was quoting the gibberish that I hear my kids say to their friends. From what I’ve gathered, it loosely means that I secretly like the nerdy idea of using a small computer for this purpose but I can’t really admit to that because I would not want to negatively impact my reputation as an attractive person. I’d probably be better at translating Sanskrit.

I'm going to rig up a clipboard mount for the dash mounting slot so I can clip my paper maps to it.

Just need a few rivets...

I’m considering getting one of these Car Play screens when my Slate arrives.

<snip>
I’ve had one of these in my Jeep for a few years. They tend to work ok, there are a few issues to consider:
  • The CarPlay uses the BT to establish the connection to iPhone and handoff to WiFi. My experience has been the output plays over an aux output or a FM transmitter, so you’ll probably not link this device to speaker via BT.
  • Many of these units are knockoffs and getting support/updates could be difficult, Carpuride is well known and you can get support from them prior to purchase.
  • Test everything, make sure you can live with it. Might be clunky, might be fine. Point is, it’s your ride so if it works for you, great.

Good points. Had good luck with Carpuride on my old GX a few years back.

I initially wanted a tablet but now I'm thinking of going this route.

  1. Theft risk might be lower than if I had a tablet on the dash.
  2. Would work similar to my current vehicles.
  3. Would not need to do the phone hotspot => tablet wrangling each time I get in the car.
    1. I could get a table with a cell modem but becomes a lot more expensive.
  4. Might provide more separation to comply with "no cell phone" laws.

Serious question, is the dash mounting slot a T-slot? I can't find any details on it.
