Being lamentably old enough now to start becoming nostalgic, I already have an original Toyota AM/FM/CD cassette deck that includes very rare Dolby C capability. Along the lines of the retro inspiration for the Slate, I'd install that Toyota deck therein and relive glory days of analog. As an aside, the JVC KD-V6 is among the most underappreciated decks of all time, rendering astonishingly excellent recordings. Counter to what most believe, cassettes are actually capable of superb quality with the right equipment and tape selection.

The radio in my 1987 Toyota Van had AM-STEREO capability, which amazed my Travelling Waves professor to no end. I don't recall ever seeing another receiver with that capability. (That van also had an ice-maker which I think is my very favorite stock vehicle feature of all time.)

That generation Toyota van was innovative and intriguing (as was the subsequent Toyota Previa). I might also add, YOU COULD GET IT WITH 4WD. You hear that, Slate? 4WD. In 1987. *#$&#^@#

I'm going with a Bluetooth capable amp and hardwired speakers and will use my phone.
Seems the most obvious way to do it, although stereo speakers with a bass booster fitting in the dashboard but not being blocked by your iPhone or iPad would be ideal❣

I just want as minimal and simple as possible. I wish there's just a Bluetooth receiver amp that goes to the speakers. I always stream from my phone anyway.
