This business write-off loophole might explain why Toyota Tacoma, Ford Ranger and Nissan Frontier all have 6k GVWRs. I remember when my 1992 full size F-150 had a GVWR of 5100 or 5200 pounds.

I agree with @GaRailroader .
However, building vehicles aimed at "government loop holes" is one of the many problems with American automakers. I believe this trend (disappearing coupes and sedans, large overloaded expensive SUVs and trucks) has blinded the automakers to a true competitive market while they expect government subsidies and protections.

They are ignoring the opportunity of a small light utility vehicle that is affordable and convenient. Thankfully, that's exactly Slate's target market. I have expectations that Slate will begin a similar automaker disruption of the 1980s when American automakers believed we would blindly continue replacing our cars every 3 years and had no interest in high quality reliable vehicles. When that happens, I will be extremely disappointed if Stellantis, Ford, and GM demand protection from Slate.

I agree, but I’m still going to get the slate for my business regardless because it’s just that cool.
