The retro-simplistic look is a big boon in my opinion. It seems that most manufacturers have opted to use the transition to EVs as a time to change their design language to something futuristic. It works for some vehicles but less for others (in my opinion).

I dig that the Truck is just a lil truck. Not some 'designed in a wind tunnel' style with slopes and slants everywhere.

I think it's mainly that both pickup trucks and cars are being optimized for aerodynamics. That's why many cars are creeping towards the look of the tesla, and most SUVs look pretty much the same.
This may be a downside to the Slate's retro look, but for in town driving, it shouldn't make much difference.
