From what I understand leasing won't be available at first but is something Slate will explore later on (please correct me if I'm wrong or misheard). But I was just brainstorming of what leasing could look like considering the unique offering the Slate Truck would bring. Slate's big selling point is about personalizing but that doesn't make much sense with a lease where you likely aren't going to buy the vehicle. But while Slate doesn't have traditional trims they do have very fun starter packs each with their own unique names. I'm thinking the move Slate could make is offer these starter pack bundles for lease offerings, Whether it be a Blank Slate, The Builder, Luck 77, The Professional, DJ Set, etc. There's so many different options, there's at least one that will appeal to someone for a lease term. Then when the lease is up Slate Auto can then sell these used starter pack bundles for someone to customize it as their own one of one slate. What do you think about this idea?

While it’s possible that starter packs can be offered in a lease, I think it’s going to diminsh value when the lease is up. Meaning that it will appeal to a smaller group of buyers. I can envision landscapers, home repair, HVAC, plumbing outfits, etc. ordering a fleet of Slates that have some level of customization. However, the blank unwrapped pickup or SUV will be the most desirable version on lease returns. Customization is a personal preference, by definition.

Say you lease a blank Slate and then do custom wraps and add all kinds of aftermarket stuff by 3rd parties. I suspect there may be language in the lease that says you need to return the truck in the same configuration as delivered. Slate cannot categorically warranty the add-ones by unknown parties.

That said, I think folks who decide to lease a Slate (when leasing is available) should be very cautious before doing customizations. Need to read the fine print in the lease agreement!
