Slate Truck: the sub 20k*, made in the USA** Vehicle!

*mid 20s at release
** except the battery and entire drivetrain
He lost me at the "China leads the way with EVs" it wasnt even worth replying to. China leads the way at lying and paying influencers and media. You can find a myriad of bipartisan sources discussing this. Same as they bring over influences to show off all of their "high tech"

They are rhe most propagandized place on rhe damned planet and its working.

Battery is SK On's US plant iirc, unless thats changed. Korea is also an ally and is cool so not nearly as big a deal

If China is #1, America is a close second.

China is wherever the bottom is. I'd assume in terms of EVs its Europe > US > Korea > Japan
Instead of assuming, research would add the most to this conversation.

This is research lol. Go watch some Serpentza or China Insider.

7 BYD fires a day, and thats the low estimate. Hard to get info when the Chinese govt literally arrests people for posting anything against their EVs. A whole ship just burned off thr coast of Alaska due to Chinese built EVs.

Might be time to hit the ignore button on Mr. @SlatePossible2028.
Yeah if you don't like people saying we probably shouldn't support or be good to a literal enemy country you should probably put me on ignore. Im guessing this being an EV forum im rhe only one with the guts to speak outside the lines. Unsurprising

I don’t disagree with the propaganda sentiment. I’ve also seen the increase in travel bloggers painting beautiful colorful pictures of china. I’m well aware of the darker side, like slave labor camps in Xinjiang. I don’t like it.

Point being the EVs are part of that propaganda. The CCP has 2.1 Billion into BYD alone. Its all part of it.

Glad we're on the same page. Let's go back to talking features

Something i thought of watching all this.

I wonder what the cost of a flatbed based Slate instead of a bed based slate would be.

Basic steel flatbed frame with simple coating a headache rack. And even less styling features. At $22k maybe?

Edit: upon looking at it the cab and bed seem too integrated rivian style for that. I do wish the cab and bed were more seperate.

The bed is not worth $3k, assuming a 25k base

Bed + less styling features up front. A "super stripper" slate.

But alas, too much bed/cab connection. Im sure someone will do it if thisgets off the ground

I think I read that JJE has factories in USA as well as China. I’m assuming Slate will get theirs from the plant in MI to save on any import tariffs.

I wanted to know about the regenerative braking but that wasn’t mentioned. Does that only work on the rear wheels, using the motor, or was there also something on the front wheels I didn’t notice. It wasn’t even mentioned, has anyone heard of it even has regenerative braking?

They said it doesn’t have any paint. How is the frame coated? It looked black in the video, the prototype. Is it plated, something like galvanized?
Regen braking has been confirmed. Owners of RWD Teslas have confirmed it works just fine. I had the exact same reasoning though.

If demand existed for light-duty flatbed trucks we'd see them on the roads.

Flatbeds I see are 3/4-ton and up.

Makes sense when you consider that a pallet of sod weighs twice the Slate's load-carrying capacity (just an example).
