Slate Auto Pickup Truck Slate vs REO Runabout IMG_1866
Anyone remember the Nobe 500 all electric truck? I wanted one of those! Nobe never asked $$ upfront for a reservation but Nobe did build an operating prototype. But the company never made it to production.

Nothing Fun
“Much like the Slate and other EV startups, REO has launched a website with fully refundable reservations for just $25, but the company’s own legal language makes clear that a reservation is not an order, not a production slot, not a locked-in price, and not a promise that a truck will be built or delivered. The company’s timeline currently points to a model reveal in late 2026, pilot builds and validation in 2027, an order book in 2028, and first deliveries in late 2028 or 2029

In other words, this is early. Very early. Early enough that you may want to keep both feet on the ground, even if you’re already dreaming of steel wheels and a bench seat…Will it happen? That is the question. For now, the REO Runabout is not a truck you can drive. It is an idea with a website, a reservation form, a trademark application, and a very strong sense of timing”-Michael Satterfield

A bit more than a few steps even their trademark of REO is still pending.
This forum seems very very hung up on the legalese of the reservation. The Slate, which as of now is very very likely to make it to customer production, shares similar language. “This Agreement does not constitute a purchase agreement or an offer to sell a Truck.”
Will this forum be up in arms over that? The language has changed too since it launched last April.

Again, broadly. Nobody is forcing you to get a reservation for the REO. If it makes it to production, that’s a good thing. Same as the fact that it’s a good thing if the Ford $30k EV becomes a reality.

I watched this guy's review earlier today (not an endorsement, just dropping the link). Not much info out there yet but he has some notes. I won't be looking to get a REO myself, but will be watching and hoping they're legit.

Agreed if it makes it to production as a real truck that is a good thing. That quote was from an article by the way, not this forum.

Small trucks are a necessary part of the vehicle market. Wish it was going cleaner, but I also miss my manual transmission Mitsubishi, so…
Yeah this is a bit off topic, but I’m curious why Flex Fuels and other alternative fuels never caught on in the US like some other countries? It’s like as soon as Tesla made a mass market car that was actually popular the whole world decided BEVs were the future and that Alternative Fuels or Hydrogen was just a distraction and not worth researching/investing in anymore.

But yeah I agree wish manuals weren’t becoming an endangered species and we are seemingly on the cusp of a compact/mini truck wave in the US.

He’s not a billionaire doing this as a side project.
That much is obvious. This unsupported notional idea might have actually had more than a snowball's chance in hell if he was.

I say look for the best in people though. True fraud involves an intent to deceive. It's just as likely that this real-estate agent 'car guy' with no engineering or manufacturing background and only a notional idea that hasn't even been designed yet but is taking money for 'reservations' is a self-deluded well-meaning idiot, who still doesn't know that he doesn't know what he doesn't know, rather than an actual scammer.

I'm nothing if not an optimist. :like:

If you don’t want to get scammed, don’t give them $25.

A year ago it looked similarly possible that Slate would go belly up and you’d never see your $50. The sentiment on this forum was “it’s $50 to support a dream” or similar…
A year ago, Slate had produced 70 prototypes, considerably more advanced than Reo, no comparision

An ICE compact truck weighing 4200 pounds? I dont think so.

This truck is vaporware. We'll be lucky to get an AI render before the grift ends. The "specs" read like an AI summary of this forum.

Oh... the CEO Zachery DeBernardi isn't new at this. Here's another company of his, also in Texas...

Bitfinity

They do crypto - at least they used to. I'm surprised the website's still up, considering the LLC has been involuntarily dissolved...

Bitfinity status

Is it the same person? Take another look at the REO website...

REO Trucks

Same incrementing numbers, fonts, font sizes, and footer style. Both use the same WordPress template, as well.

This is no coincidence.
