Will you have self control when choosing add-ons?

Excellent observation on the phone locking out when idle. Mine seems to do that in 15 seconds (I know it can be adjusted). I hope the software techs at Slate get it right and have an option not to let your phone lock whenever the app is running. I have a security camera app and I set it to...

This is the small truck Tesla should have produced...

Interesting that this thread laid dormant for over a month. Now to share my opinion. We can debate all day long about ambiguous selling prices after incentives and pseudo comparisons to similar ICE vehicles from the late 80s etc until the cows come home. My original point was that if Tesla...

Deep dive article: 70+ Slate prototypes built already -- "Inside the stealth production facility"

Perhaps, but I thought the appeal of this vehicle is DIY. Slate University will guide us step by step on wrapping. The point I am making is to keep it out of collision shops in the event of a mishap.

Drive Unit / Motor supplier appears as Cascadia Motion (BorgWarner) in Slate prototype video

It seems that some people just land the best jobs. Like driving that test vehicle. My luck, I’ll end up as the test dummy:

Drive Unit / Motor supplier appears as Cascadia Motion (BorgWarner) in Slate prototype video

I noted this as well. As I indicated it may have been an earlier prototype and Slate just slapped on generic tail lights from the parts bin. In other footage it definitely looks like platform, dash, and front end is legit.

Deep dive article: 70+ Slate prototypes built already -- "Inside the stealth production facility"

Well said. Slate’s presence is already being felt. They have not sold a single unit but have already exerted downward pressure on pricing from several auto makers (eg Nissan, Ford, Tesla). Also seeing lower contented versions of Tesla Models with lower sticker prices. Keep it coming...

Deep dive article: 70+ Slate prototypes built already -- "Inside the stealth production facility"

Well, there were a couple of interesting facts I picked up from this article. Slate assembled 70 betas and prototypes in a makeshift factory located 20 miles from their Troy headquarters. That's impressive since they were mostly hand built without automation. Granted, it took them 2 years to...

Drive Unit / Motor supplier appears as Cascadia Motion (BorgWarner) in Slate prototype video

From this screen shot (00:37 seconds) it clearly shows a modified Cascadia Motion Integrated Drive Module. Cascadia is a US-based automotive supplier, subsidiary of BorgWarner, that develops and manufactures inverters, traction motors, and geartrains for various electric vehicle applications...

    Tesla Supercharging ?

The compatibility with Tesla’s supercharger NACS network is virtually guaranteed. While ā€˜Slate’ is not yet listed, I bet I could charge it today using ā€œother.ā€ However if you want to pay lower Tesla rates, you need to sign up for the $12.99 monthly membership fee. Fisker, Lucid, Rivian...

    Door panels

Nice catch! It’s possible that one slot will be designated for the driver and the second for the passenger window. Those switches are not showing up with standard crank handles so this appears to be correct.

Actually, the security guard said this... Stop! Or I'll say Stop Again!

    Door panels

Just captured this close up of the door panel card. Some observations: 1. It's not clear why anyone would want to spec a white or light-colored fabric for the doors. Especially if this is marketed as a work truck. 2. From an ergonomics standpoint, the power window switch is a bit obtrusive...

Just got this email from Slate: SIGNED. SEALED. DELIVERED?

No email for me šŸ˜•. My guess … the gift might be a 3D printed Slatelet / fridge magnet. That way you’ll be reminded all day long of your new ride.

Factory in Warsaw visit - photos and my interview with guard (June 4, 2025)

From google maps it looks to be about 100 acres which is the equivalent of about 76 football fields. That said, the old site had huge printing presses, and all assets were contained indoors. Not a huge theft risk, lol. Now there will be highly desirable ev's on the property, with a lot of...

SLATE office dog approved: The goodest boy (ad commercial)

Cleverly done short video that promotes their merchandise. Appeals to dog lovers and takes on Tesla with their ā€œdog modeā€ feature. Only $12.50, dog not included. And that Slate looks pretty cool sitting in the driveway!

Factory in Warsaw visit - photos and my interview with guard (June 4, 2025)

Great pix, thanks for sharing! It looks like there is plenty of acreage on that campus to build a test track and an even a large field to park completed trucks. When production is in full swing, SA will need to move about 12,000 trucks per month so all this space will be needed.

Open Air Kit Body Style question - how do you keep your truck from getting rained in?

Spotted today in my home town. This ā€œopen airā€ concept is really catching on. Here is a prime example of someone who obviously couldn’t wait for his Slate to be released. Upon closer inspection, it appears to be a DIY conversion… by a novice.
