Amateur Radio Fans:
Appears that Slate's open dash panel design may be ideally suitable for mounting a mini–Amateur Radio or GMRS mobile rig. This location would be superior to cup holder mounts or under dash brackets. The flip open panel will keep the unit visible and neatly hidden from view...
I fully agree that Slate’s business model with a single, basic configuration and DIY customization is definitely a game changer. For some, it can be the fun ‘project car’ we always wanted.
But is Slate really going against the grain? The short answer is “no”. We can all agree the design...
That’s the best case for sure. When the ambient temperature drops to 30 degrees and below, I guarantee the quoted range will drop like a rock. Anyone with an EV knows this. The Slate is being built in Indiana with corporate HQ in Michigan, so they know what ‘real winters’ are like.
Today Ford Motor Co. announced that, due to pending tariffs, the Mexican built Maverick hybrid truck and Bronco Sport will soon increase by $2k. Although not EVs, both vehicles resemble the Slate in form, fit and function. This news should make an even stronger financial case for Slate.

"Our fictional rendering depicts a slightly larger Slate with three-row seating. It could be pivotal for the company's ambitious production target."
Also known as the 3rd brake light. In all current Slate media the CHMSL is not shown on preproduction models. This is required by NHTSA to prevent rear end collisions since 1986. On the base truck it should be over the rear glass on the cab, if the SUV kit is ordered then it will need to be...
Nice detail! Decent ratings for treadwear 500; traction A, temperature A. Keep in mind the 17” wheel will deliver higher range than the optional 20” wheels. But I still prefer the look of the 20” wheels.
Just noticed that Slate Auto posted quite a few job openings in the past week. More to come!

The tablet can be removed from the holder and hidden within the vehicle. Or taken with you. I would probably just remove it and place under the driver’s seat when parked.
In 1989, the average new car price in the US was roughly $15,000. At that time, Hyundai introduced a new car called the Excel with a starting price < $5,000. Everyone was astonished as to how they can produce such an high value, inexpensive vehicle.
The Slate business model is virtually...
I am now thinking that, assuming no major setbacks, Slate will meet its limited production target delivery by 4Q26… within a few months of their original projection.
Using Scout Motors as a reference, they are currently building a brand new factory in SC from the ground up and projecting...
Agreed! First, I don't believe that Slate will meet its targeted priced of $27K due to rising costs and continued supply chain pressures. They don't have the economies of scale that large EV companies (Tesla) have developed. The government incentive is not guaranteed beyond the current fiscal...
You may recall that Apple did try to develop an EV for 10 years, but the project was officially cancelled in April 2024. But I agree that Slate manufacturing could be picked up by another more established entity. It would need to be a US based company to remain consistent with their mission...
Ok, we get it. A fully equipped and capable paint shop with proper environmental / temperature/ humidity/ filtration controls can run upwards of $500M. I admire Slate for their design decision up front to use molded composite body panels not requiring paint, and highly suitable for wraps.
But...
Here's another stat. Only 147 reservations in 9 days since pre-ordering opened up. That's like 16+ per pre-orders per day. At this rate Slate will never get into production. Hopefully there's a lot of ordering activity behind the scenes by customers who don't know about this site or didn't...
