I really like this idea! Slate can then market this vehicle in 3 versions:
Pickup - standard configuration
SUV - with full kit of rear seats, roll bar, and roof
Minivan - topper / roof only, no rear seats. With an air mattress in the back you now have a camper.
Geez, only 18 months away from target deliveries and still no plan for such a basic option. The reason being, the engineers that are going to make that decision…
… wait for it …
have not been hired yet.
I think I’m going to just order the basic version and wait until after...
As many of us have indicated, the Slate will be a secondary, fun mode of transport for all the local trips which really tack on the miles to our main vehicle(s). If Slate never materializes, I will just keep running my existing car till the wheels fall off.
Anyone on this forum who owns a Tesla should already be familiar with a similar wireless button solution called "S3XY." These buttons, which can be 'stuck' anywhere in the cabin, allow owners to add up to eight buttons to access their vehicle’s controls and systems. Examples include...
Sorry to inform that, according to Inside EVs: The partition between the cab and the bed gets taken out. Perhaps there is a workaround, but there may be some hardware that needs to be accessed in the partition area to properly install the SUV kit. Please don't shoot the messenger.
Agreed, also note that the rollbar contains airbags for the rear seat passengers. It will indeed add structural integrity and perhaps torsional rigidity to the rear compartment area with added roof height. The government five-star rating system covers frontal / side crash and rollover risk...

FYI- Amazon has just released a new paperback book on the ‘Slate Story’ authored by Gerald G. Haywood.
“This book unpacks the strategy, vision, and cultural moment that gave rise to a $50 reservation gamble —and a potential industry upheaval.”
I can envision that...
I caught this screen shot on "Out of Spec Reviews" which shows pre-wiring for double DIN radios, also a set of USB connectors (suitable for dashcam power). Your assumption is validated.
If the rest of the truck is pre-wired like this, I am really looking forward to adding accessories...
I find it rather interesting that on the reservation page on this forum I counted at least three from Ontario and Alberta Canada. Why accept reservations if you’re not going to fulfill them?
Interesting conversation guided by insiders with unique perspectives on the Slate concept, and provides insight into how this project got started. Enjoy!
Here are ten interesting details I discovered in this excellent video…
Appears you can have both your iPad as a central display AND a dock for your phone.
The seats look reasonably comfortable.
The body panels have a bit of flex to ward off dings from shopping carts and car doors of vehicles...
Many of the trim pieces you see in the introductory videos were actually 3D printed. When the vehicle goes into production the trims should be more robust.
That said, it would be a great idea if Slate could have a "near production" vehicle on display at the next 2026 International Auto Show...
Appears that many folks on this forum are ready to sign on the dotted line when their reservation is called. Tick the boxes for desired options, secure the down payment, arrange loan terms or pay cash via electronic check, upload your driver's license and insurance card, click submit, and...
“Huge amount of 3D printing in the background.” Hence the inspiration for my username (hint). Was running 3D printers non stop during FSD (full scale development) back in the day. That’s how Slate has shrunk their development time. Now the challenge is to line up their supply chain with dual...
