Dear Slate - you need to show these things before I'll buy

Having grow up in Motown, I have see the good, bad and ugly of the auto market. The fact that Slate spent 2 years in stealth mode and has Jeff B. as a backer gives me reasonable confidence they will make it to market. My concern in the Michigan market is the dealership network. They hate EVs...

Dear Slate - you need to show these things before I'll buy

What if? Slate goes under in 2 or less years?; 1.) As an early adopter that is the risk I an willing to take. 2.) I hope they stay true to their "off the shelf" parts. I just want to know who is making their motor/gearbox. If need be I know my way around a voltmeter. 3.) Actually the most...

    Simplicity!

That's my point. People get themselves all bunched up like we have to chouse one over the other, that is just plain B.S. It's called using the right tool for the job, learned that from my grandpa.

    Simplicity!

I love my Tesla and all it's tech. Great for road trips from Michigan to Texas. But banging around the neighborhood, I enjoy something significantly simpler. I'm an electronics guy and have little use for ICE engines. I'm not trying to save the planet, and I don't judge guys with their dually...

What are your personal MUST HAVE Add-Ons/Accessories for your Slate?

The plan is to get a blank Slate and drive it around neat for a while to see what I feel is missing. Based on past vehicles; 1.) Fog lights...really help my older eyes. 2.) Tow hitch What I expect will be some deals on getting ADD-ON's out of the gate. This will make the brand stand out...cheap...

    Simple low-tech audio ideas

Slate needs a front spot light and winch. I then will pull Wranglers out of the ditch for free; Just for the opportunity to humiliate.

    Simple low-tech audio ideas

One crazy idea; Replace the seats with seats from a Pontiac Fiero...the speakers were in the headrest.

It looks like SLATE has pathetic EV efficiency. (and a rant).

Ranting out loud! I find it interesting to re-read some of the older posts; what changes, what doesn't. Range advertising; Always shows the range of a new battery. Does not account for what it will be in 3 years, 6 years, etc. Or at 32F, (0C). (After 7 years of EV driving, I don't even think...

    Simple low-tech audio ideas

I have been using my tricked out golf cart as a test bed for the Slate, wife thinks I'm nuts, but sane people don't have this much fun.

    Simple low-tech audio ideas

The concept is great, as a "boomer" I remember my buddies buying junkers to "hot rod" as both driving options and as their auto mechanics class project. (Then GTO happened and you could get it that way off the showroom floor, nice but not fun.) Slate will fit perfectly with my pre-1900 farm...

Slate truck reviewed by UK outlet (Electrifying.com) - Updated with video review

Most of the interesting stuff will be happening at the assembly plant and behind closed doors of board meetings. What I will be watching for are the preproduction specs...right now even range is a "prototype guess". When they come out with real numbers it will show what their philosophy is; i.e...

If the Slate PU came only as an ICE, I would buy one.

No. The first attraction to Slate is electric (BEV), followed closely by it's size and simplicity, the fact that I can put my stuff in it and not what some auto exec thinks I want is a ++. I can charge it off my solar set up, so most of my local driving is on sunshine. I can't make my own gas...

Poll: Which part of the Slate website are you looking forward to the most?

Hey kids, dreaming is nice and lord knows I do my share. But the fact is; NOTHING happens until the final production version is decided and we see Slates rolling out of Warsaw. It will be mind numbingly slow at first. But this is when we will see real world numbers, specks, and soon after price...

Slate will train RepairPal shops for accessories installs, service, repairs

Will these shops be distribution points? Will there be introductory price incentives to get mods done at time of delivery? What has been bugging me; What becomes of the original tires, bumpers, etc. if we choose those options? On our own to sell them? Exchange program?

The Hypothetical Vehicle I Would Chose Over The Slate

Utilitarian. It's what I want. Not fast, no fancy interior, it gets me there basic controls. I love the tech of my Model 3, and it's great on a cross country trip. But when I bought a small freezer and had to drive it home strapped to the roof with the windows down...not ideal.

Slate CEO talks accessories, third party parts, Slate Marketplace (TechCrunch interview)

Yes, and I like the cab as plain as possible. All I want it easy access to 12 VDC (and not just using (lighter plugs). If I wanted a show piece pick up, I would get that. I need a work truck to haul a couple of bails of straw, bags of dirt, rocks, shovels, paint, cement, trash...stuff you...

Will you be installing a Level 2 charger?

I have used a NEMA 6-15 adaptor for my Tesla 3 for the past 7 years. Charge rate is 11 miles per hour. Usually enough to top off after a day of driving (60 to 110 miles/day). I plan to use it with the Slate. My point? It's barely level 2, but cheap to install since it does not require heavy...

Slate announces Tesla supercharger access + 4,000 service / repair shops RepairPal partnership!

Whoa there cowboys! Here in the motor city shops have to have certified mechanics before they will even touch your car. True, a steering knuckle is rather standard across brands, but the specialized components of an EV will require a service tech with the knowledge AND access to the manufactures...

    Single Din Radio Mount Accessory

At one of the events I asked about the radio and was told there is room for a single DIN. But I keep haring people say double DIN???? As one who has installed many after market radios and knowing a little about the tooling issues of a new product line...I recommend waiting until Slate in in...

Slate Auto Custom Garage - Event Photos (Oct 16)

I think the "under-frame" (so called body in white) will become the most valuable "reclaim part". With that you have all the rolling hardware and depending on your skill level, you could make it look like just about any vehicle with bolt on parts.
