Specifically, I want to know if the floor area behind the seats is accesible from the cab. In SUV trim, that space is the floor for backseat passangers. In the two-seater, it's covered by a panel in the bed...

If the section is accessible within the cab, I have plans.
If the section is isolated from the cab, I have different plans.

I don't know how much actual space there is there. That's not the footwell, that's where the seat bolts down. The small lip in the midgate covers a small bit of footwell, but the rest of it is just the small area behind the seats in truck format.

It's a footwell for sure. They've said that several times, including here:
It's a panel that comes out when you bolt in the bench seat, but that specific panel is where the seat is, not where the footwell is. The footwell is in front of there, as shown in the maker model. So 90% of the footwell is uncovered inside the cabin in truck mode.

You can see here where the front edge of the seat is where the midgate was.

I knew someone who had an El Camino with a similar space that could be used for storage but wasn't advertised as such.

Found this when looking for a picture to post.

Love that, haha. I like that the Telo had an empty spot in the same area, so they gave it the "monster tunnel" (get it? It's under the bed? They love that joke).

On the Slate, I would say that area could be just as deep as the footwell if the battery was flat across, but somewhere I saw a photo of the battery pack and it has a bump up right in that spot. So if I had to guess, that U shaped panel covers the mounting locations for the roll cage and seats, but there's not much additional depth in the middle.

Jeremy Schneider clearly says "that's the footwell for the passengers when you put in the bench seat", so there's that.

Notice the shape. It looks to me like the roolbar and seat bolt in behind the footwell, near the wheelwells.

What a PR guy tells an old car guy mid-rant, and what the detailed design is like may not match perfectly. I go by what I can clearly see.

Here's a couple more pictures from the maker to get an idea of where the seat is, and how the footwell is inside the cabin.

And if you assume the battery basically goes wheel well to wheel well (the reason the wheelbase is so long), then that bump in the pack lines up exactly under the rear seat.
