Well, to be honest he needs to be a “really good friend” for me to revert my Slate SUV back to a Day 1 pickup. In fact, I’d be willing to predict that mostly all owners who paid big bucks to upgrade to a square back or slant back will NEVER strip it back to a blank Slate. Even if it means putting it all back together in a few days. I don’t need more headaches than I already have.

There aren’t enough cases of beer or pizza pies that could possibly win me over. It will be way easier for me to rent a trailer at Tractor Supply, hook up to my Slate hitch mount and make sure I don’t exceed 1,000 pounds. 👍
LOL, I would agree. I do like the SUV topper in that I believe the roof is removable, meaning I may have ability to transport a taller item.

On their pessimism for the long term sales, I think that is where fleets will come in. Not full time delivery fleets that have a driver driving 8 hours a day, but the florists, plumbers, painters, landscapers, auto parts chains, etc, that can plug in when they park and just not worry about refueling ever again, and cut 75% of their maintenance., can easily get it wrapped etc.
Some of those are now buying Mavericks, just because it's the cheapest option that fills the need, but even then, it's overkill, when there are never 3 passengers, and they don't tow.

The "only 3 prototypes" must refer to the units that they are using for events and marketing like this. 78 total built, and over half going to crash tests leaves somewhere in the 30s, but many of those may have been preliminary builds that don't have a lot of the "finish" parts that need to be seen for marketing, or were meant only for other testing, like the heat testing.

If he's correct, the Slate will have some hefty used-EV competition.

I had watched that too and was thinking the same thing. 2026-2027 will be interesting times for Slate.

Agreed, but there’s a couple of important factors regarding competition from used EVs… and used vehicles in general:

1- did the previous owner maintain the battery properly…? (already discussed on this forum)

2- statistically, up to 40% of used vehicles have been involved in some kind of accident.

You need to ask yourself is it worth the risk to consider a used EV when a new Slate is in the same price range. But then again, buying the first model year of any new car is not without risk.

And again, it comes down to their interest in a small truck, EV vs any EV as none of those coming off lease are small truck EVs.
