Slate Auto confirmed to my question about home delivery no matter where you live:

No matter where you live, we’ve got you covered. When the time comes, your Slate will be delivered directly to your door — simple and hassle-free. We are still working out the logistics for that.

Personally I could care less, and don't see how this is somehow a "huge value add", just seems like a bit of sensationalism for the press.. Frankly I'd rather pick it up at a "dealership" where I can meet the service manager / staff and check out the service facility.

I love the idea of home delivery and hope to never set foot on a dealer or service lot.

I’ve performed all of the service repairs on my vehicles, except tires. This is the first vehicle made since about 2014 that I would consider buying. Hoping their slate university meets the hype and covers service and repairs.

I’m sure there will be a factory service manual that covers the EV drive train with high-voltage, that are not on slate university. I will find that as well.

To each their own. I hope they have service center pick up for those that don’t want home delivery.

except you would pay for that service, Dealerships need profit to pay for everything they do

ect.

In order to do that the price would have to be inflated by a good margin - especially since most dealerships make their money off of the service department (which this vehicle has very few moving parts unlike an ICE vehicle with a transmission

As have I on anything that is either out or warranty or massively modified (so, basically everything I've owned) - but I would hazard to guess a new EV is likely to have some mfgr. service requirements that may preclude casual owner maintenance. There's a number of manufacturers that won't service your vehicle if you've not faithfully used them for maintenance.

I have zero exposure to EV mechanicals, so I don't even know if I can still do brakes. Short of that, and keeping things greased I have no idea what is typical "home maintenance" on an EV.

If your assertion is that that those things won't exist simply because I get the car parked in my driveway that's a HUGE leap of assumption.... These things are going to need service - if that happens at a 3rd party site that's something else altogether.

My assertion is that the only way that a dealer network would even have a remote possibility is if they could piggy back off another brand

the first dealer I worked at was a Subaru / Kia dealer, the company picked up Kia (basically given to them at the time with incentives) 5 years later Subaru said Kia had to move or Subaru had to move, both could not be together

so the dealership bought another location and moved Kia, many manufacturers think their brand is superior and that they should not be in the same building as another brand

the only way for what you are saying to work would be finding a company to allow another brand in their space

but the dealership would still need to make a good profit on Slate so the prices would reflect

What I think I heard in the reveal is there will be a service agreement between Slate and a national chain like Firestone or Christian Brothers that will handle warranty issues, accessory installation, and wrapping. There may be showrooms like Tesla has in Texas, but I doubt there will be actual dealers. That's a selling point right there. I don't ever want to have to do the saleman/sales manager tango again as long as I live.

That would cost you an extra $2k for the fake smile and handshake and cheap coffee

Would love to see "mobile service" network wherein a technician does repairs at your home or office. Tesla provides mobile service for routine stuff, and the service center for more complex repairs. Remember this is a simpler vehicle with less tech and fewer moving parts along with (hopefully) a lower failure rate. I'll gladly make my own cup of coffee.

I am thinking about doing exactly this with my Slate.
