I consider it inevitable that the ICE powertrain will cause problems/expenses as it ages, and I definitely believe BEVs are more reliable.
And ICE quality seems to be slipping recently.

Apparently the YouTube algo saw me looking at EV content and thought I might appreciate some ICV dirt.

Are modern engines simply pushed too far?
Are automakers cutting corners?
Did EPA/CAFE force designs that can’t survive real-world driving?

At the least, I don't think automakers have been "forced" to do many things. Making more responsible choices that result in an engine with less competitive power/economy, a less profitable car, etc. is an option for them, just like it would've been to include a decent battery.

Making less money is surely within their power.

There is the idea that corporations have a duty to maximize profit, but if they were completely following that rule to the point of contradicting reputation/responsibility, I'm pretty sure they've left enough evil/greedy opportunities on the table that they're not doing it well.

Otherwise, they've chosen not to do some things that would have resulted in greater profit, which would make the profit maximizing rule a situational excuse.

Economic laws are laws of Nature that exert certain forces on anyone participating in economic activity.

Corporations have a fiduciary responsibility to do what will earn profit for their shareholders.

The content creator is speculating that CAFE Standards have forced changes in engine design that have traded away some reliability to achieve fuel efficiency.

He's a content creator who's seeking engagement, so there's that to keep in mind. He speculates that new CAFE standards will hit trucks especially hard, starting at 8:50.
