So I started asking my Agent about insurance

they were not aware of the slate

I think the can of worms might be covering all the add ons

you may have a $25,000 vehicle you may have a $40,000 vehicle with all the add ons you want

that might change the cost of insurance

if your not paying for the additional coverage you may just get vehicle replacement if it is totaled and may be out the accessories (add ons)

my agent is looking into it but a suggestion would be to get them the initial price of your build and get them the receipt of the add ons so they can adjust your coverage accordingly

anybody have their agent checking on insurance

If you get a loan they will at least want coverage for the amount financed and probably gap insurance

I once insured a self assembled vehicle (kit car) and they simply said, "what do you want it insured for?" My payment was then based on the liability coverage (which is probably uniform, based on the driver) plus the replacement value that I gave them.

I haven't dug very deeply into it, but the AI response to my insurance query seems to support coverage; will probably wait to get the VIN from Slate before I add it.

I have been trying to get an estimate from my insurance agent and they said that it is difficult to get anything accurate without a VIN. They hadn’t ever encountered someone asking about a new car model from a new company. It makes sense that it would send them in a tailspin - how rare of a moment we are in. To get a rough guesstimate, I gave a VIN for a 2027 Chevy Bolt EUV, which I figured is a comparable drive train, vehicle value once optioned, and similar use risk factors.

The first 500 Slate owners will spend several months helping insurance companies answer all the important questions. The rest of us with delivery windows in the Fall 2028, can then enjoy the benefits of their sacrifice.
