So I started asking my Agent about insurance

they were not aware of the slate

I think the can of worms might be covering all the add ons

you may have a $25,000 vehicle you may have a $40,000 vehicle with all the add ons you want

that might change the cost of insurance

if your not paying for the additional coverage you may just get vehicle replacement if it is totaled and may be out the accessories (add ons)

my agent is looking into it but a suggestion would be to get them the initial price of your build and get them the receipt of the add ons so they can adjust your coverage accordingly

anybody have their agent checking on insurance

If you get a loan they will at least want coverage for the amount financed and probably gap insurance

I once insured a self assembled vehicle (kit car) and they simply said, "what do you want it insured for?" My payment was then based on the liability coverage (which is probably uniform, based on the driver) plus the replacement value that I gave them.

I haven't dug very deeply into it, but the AI response to my insurance query seems to support coverage; will probably wait to get the VIN from Slate before I add it.

I have been trying to get an estimate from my insurance agent and they said that it is difficult to get anything accurate without a VIN. They hadn’t ever encountered someone asking about a new car model from a new company. It makes sense that it would send them in a tailspin - how rare of a moment we are in. To get a rough guesstimate, I gave a VIN for a 2027 Chevy Bolt EUV, which I figured is a comparable drive train, vehicle value once optioned, and similar use risk factors.

Well at the very least from what I remember Slate has confirmed that the accessories will be covered under warranty. So Slate considers 1st Party Accessories part of the Truck but I don’t know how insurance will see it. Like how does insurance handle accessories in general for other vehicles?

Some of it may be what owners report, like what major assessories were added

Not sure how this would work, but it seems to me that insurance rates should take into account the ease of body damage repair on our new Slates. I can swap out a damaged panel myself in an hour, vs a body shop's labor, plus paint shop time that's required for any normal vehicle involved in a minor collision.

Not to rain on anyone’s parade but be prepared in some states (like Michigan) for a big hit on your vehicle plates/registration. My Mach E renewal was $480. 😳
I believe the Slate will come in lower but they are trying to capture lost gas tax revenue. They should do the tax by milage driven here and as more EVs hit the road I’m hoping we can get the law changed.

From my State Farm agent - Based on MSRP of $25,000 with comp & collision @ $500 deductible the monthly premium will be $514 for 6 months. That is at today's rate.
interesting. State Farm actually has this vehicle "listed" for quoting? I'm rather surprised!

my agent reached out to the underwriter to get a quote

I think they are just going off the msrp to come out with a number

I assume it would be based on the vehicle MSRP + Accesory coverage in the amount of $x,xxxx. If accessories are handled on the same loan as the vehicle, that number is straight forward. If you pay cash, you're likely going to need to show the value of accessories you want covered.
