Indeed, plus the new generation is "on pause" for sale in the US. They're being made in China, so 100% tariff on them as well
Not to get into another ICEV/EV discussion, but my brother just bought a new GTI in July. $32K. Very nice car and I guess it's fair to say it is the original "Hot Hatch". One would have to consider if the weight of the battery would affect the hot hatch dynamics being sought, but then again the battery weight could be positioned and centered under the floor for ideal weight balance.

I've driven a few versions of the Mini through the several generations. My sister has a manual trans 2012 Cooper S, which is a ball to drive.

Yeah for sure. I'm pretty set on EV at this point, but the GTI in its current form is enticing. As far as weight of the battery goes, I'm not too worried. VW already has the ID.3, and the ID.2 and even smaller ID.1 are coming out (in the EU), so it seems like a relatively solved problem.

The Mini EV fits that model type but the price sorta takes a bite out of your ass...

I actually built and priced one of these before getting our second MachE. I could not justify the $10k more it would cost to own a less useful vehicle.
