Poll: Slate's second model - what do you think it will be?

I am not the first to state this, but I will agree that a small, 2 door sporty EV would be awesome. This would be a fun vehicle. There would be a frunk and a trunk, but a heavy battery slung low and a decent acceleration. Nothing face-melting, but super fun. The Miata, but a smidge bigger to fit the more portly amongst us.

I myself have frequently wondered why Mini Cooper has really lost the thread on a 2-door fully electric Mini with more than a 200-mile range. It's a miss.

As was revealed recently by a Slate Board Member, Slate has a 4 door model planned. If I remember correctly, I believe Chris Barman also talked about how they are already working on another vehicle platform. Now Slate is putting majority of their focus on delivering the Slate Truck on schedule and on budget and we likely won’t see a 2nd model until 2030 the earliest.

The "package protection" makes it sound like a 4-door variant may be less than a whole new vehicle, so a 4-door SUV/truck. I could imagine it only being an SUV to keep it around the same overall size, basically replacing the bed rear with a cab rear instead of splicing more cab in the middle.

I think "another platform" would be referring to the more car/coupe-like concept, but I'm biased toward "hope", there.

I’m not sure if they will do a different model. Part of the business model is the accessories and the models over the years need to be similar for them to optimize the flexibility of those.

However if they do a second model I expect that it will be a van style that allows for sliding, conventional, or no doors. This would allow more traditional van, crossover, and cargo uses.

I could also see an AWD version that reduces the frunk. But I would rather than be an option /accessory.

As of the time the Rich Rebuilds video was made they had "a Slate portfolio of vehicles with additional features that may or may not fit right underneath the frunk" in the design phase.

Getting a glimpse of that portfolio sure would be fun, wouldn't it?

I hope they just do what they said they would do. Do one thing and do it well. Just one truck thats it. maybe parts change here and there, but largely the same.

A dual motor all-wheel drive version of the Slate with an extended cab/extended bed.

What do you mean?

The current battery occupies all the space under the bed, besides that taken by the motor. A 4 door model would have to push it back. Looks to be only a few feet left from the rear door to the bumper. A cargo type van usually also has a lower floor than a truck bed would be to give those cargo cubic feet.
