But they have been "solved" only to recur. I really don't think nuclear is economical enough to beat solar by enough for investors to take the long term risk on building out nuclear anymore.
The podcast episode in this post provides a lot of insights.

It's complicated.

For one thing, if you can produce more electricity you still need to distribute it.

Like, this is no joke. If we just used the poles and wires more efficiently, we could power up a lot of stuff because we're not short on generation. We're not short on power plants. We are short on capacity and the poles and wires. Okay. So, what are we doing there?

Using batteries to distribute power off-peak could help a lot.

Will respectfully disagree.

Stupid data point: my brother spent 6 years building new nukes in the desert in the UAE! If they have so much sun and wind and so much oil, why would they drop $12-18B reactors in the desert on top of oil fields with 60 year shelf lives? Are they foolish or do they realize something that others don’t?

…the French wouldn’t aggressively push nukes if they didn’t think them safe enough (for the next invading army).

Im an “all of the cleanest options of each” kind of guy….bring on solar and wind and hydro and geothermal and nuke and coal and gas…lots of redundancy and less dependence.

solar is getting cheaper and solid state batteries are next gen in efficiency….except when clouds or forest fires blackout the sky…gotta have lots of capacity.
