Slate Owners Meets (CA)

I know this is way early, but just curious how many actual pre-orders (granted you purchase) would be willing to attend meets for slate owners. I am trying to get an idea for how many slaters are in Cali that are on the forums.

Also, what would be something you owners would like to see at meet ups and what areas like SoCal (Ontario, Rancho, Riverside, San Bernardino, Irvine, Huntington Beach, etc. ) Central Cali, NorCal etc.

Norcal here, personally I'd be all about the things different people have done with them. Maybe solutions to common issues? Maybe Slate-specific vender booths? All the things ya expect from car meetups. Heck, just geeking on having a lot of Slate owners in one place would be awesome.

I'm pretty sure lock-on-moving is a crash safety need. Locked doors are less likely to come open in a severe crash which reduces the risk of occupant injury. Walk-away-locking is a feature that users are split on so some manufacturers include it, some don't. For some it's a model-to-model decision. My 2023 Kia Sorento Hybrid had it, my 2025 Kia EV6 doesn't.

However, Slate appears to have no built-in medium-range RF capability. What Slate has shown is that the key fob has to actually be inserted into a receptacle in the dash. Unclear if there's a short range NFC-style RF interface for that, or if there are actual electrical contacts that let Slate see the fob. But in any case, it doesn't appear the truck can even see the key approach/leave so walk-away-locking is likely not possible.

I would prefer a tablet sized screen. I don't think a tablet permanent attached to the dash is a good idea with the battery in it. I don't want to be taking it out every time I get in and out of the truck. I just want a screen I can see android auto on that's all I need I can use Bluetooth to the speaker. A place to charge my phone wirelessly or wired would be great. I prefer all these to be add on options either OEM or 3rd party. I mainly use android auto for traffic and navigation, of course it has music controls but that's also on the steering wheel.

Palm Springs here. Would def love a Coachella Valley, Riverside County hang. Would go to LA and/or San Diego when able.

The registered members section of the app shows 97 pages of 30 members per page, 2910 members total. Far fewer than the 10,000 orders announced several weeks back.
