The whole idea that a Slate would be untowable with a dead battery ignores some things. Just because it can't be flat towed doesn't mean the powertrain is locked up with a dead battery. The rear wheels will roll, you just don't want to roll them fast or for an extended time like a tow. Most cars with an automatic transmission have had the same restriction for decades, the manual says to get a flatbed tow truck.
Even if it was locked up, the flatbed driver isn't going to have a problem dragging the vehicle a few feet onto the bed. I've seen them pick up cars that are in park/parking brake on/tires flat. Except for with flat tires, it's not going to significantly wear on the tires either.
