Surely that was a mistake.
Good on them if they can swing that, but that seems highly unlikely they will "insure" the vehicles.
Surely, if that was in the works, they would have mentioned it in more than that one single place.
Finance, sure....but also insure it?
That seems unlikely to happen to me.

Just like financing will be though third party financial corporations, insurance will be through insurance companies. Slate will also financially benefit because such deals are more than a public service provided by nice companies.

That will be the answer to how much does it cost to insure. If Slate works with insurance companies, gives them full access to crash test data and parts cost lists in advance, those companies may be able to offer a lower rate without needing to wait and see claims data.

Hoping some very attractive introductory offers come through either directly from Slate (unlikely) or a partner bank. As of today my credit union is as low as 3.74%, but I’d go anywhere for less.

Looks like SLATE is definitely Attempting to make the whole process (buying, insuring, delivering) easier for us (coming soon!). Whether or not will be best pricing - we shall see..

It will be interesting if they can pull all this off. I admire them reusing parts, using known/good commercially available parts, but not afraid to make things they need. In terms of the services, they will go a long way toward customer satisfaction if executed properly.
