I've seen some discussions about Toyota bringing back a small truck called the Stout. It's likely to happen in a 4 door version.

I've also seen discussions that Toyota may go Retro and produce a 2 door version as well. Even found this rendering.

What's your opinion? If Toyota produces a 2 door Stout, which would you choose, Stout or Slate.

I think this smaller Toyota truck has been in the rumor mill for a while now and I don't see it happening even though Toyota has been focusing more on trucks and suvs than their cars. Toyota teased the small and cheap sports car called the S-FR almost a decade ago and it still resides as a concept model.

If any manufacturer makes a sub 20k USD EV truck without tax credits, they'll have a real winner on their hands.

Based on slate actually producing what was revealed, and hitting their price and capability targets, I'd buy the slate. I don't need another vehicle, but I'm very interested in exploring the world of ev transportation. I could always buy a Tesla, but I'm not interested in exposing myself to losing more than the total price of a slate if I find evs require compromises I'm not willing to make after I have educated myself.

Given my use case, the Toyota wouldn't even be a consideration. However, if they were making a comparable vehicle to the slate, (low priced ev truck/suv) I'd buy the toyota all day long. Given toyota's long history of success, largish dealer network, etc., it would be a much "safer" bet that the company would be around in the future.

The only place the Toyoa Stout exists is in the click bait of content creators on the Internet. It certainly isn’t on a product plan anywhere at Toyota. It’s been talked about for over four years, gets great traffic, and has made a lot of people a lot of money. But don’t be looking for one from Toyota anytime soon.
