Slate Auto Pickup Truck Cargo Kit Option with Windows IMG_3403

Currently the Slate Auto Cargo Kit as seen above (and from other images of it I’ve seen) seems to be the Squareback Kit but with panels where the side windows are. Which is great but I think it would be a missed opportunity to not offer the Square Back Top with the Windows as a Cargo Kit option even for non fleet buyers.

The advantages of it is for the people who like the look of the SUV Kit Slate but doesn’t necessarily need the rear seats on Day 1 have a cheaper Day 1 option to get an SUV Slate. Then they can buy the open Air Kit for the rear seats when it’s more opportune or if it’s more needed if the owner now has their first child. Another advantage is it can basically serve the same purposes as Truck Bed Topper. While more traditional design toppers will be offered through third parties, this is an option that covered under warranty that fulfills the same purpose. Finally, while I do think the current Cargo Kit will be the preferred option for fleet sales, there have been some of the people who are interested in the Cargo Kit option for their fleet/small business that have expressed interest in retaining the windows for better visibility when maneuvering the truck. But the biggest reason why I think this would be a great option for Slate to add is I don’t see how they lose anything by offering it outside of limited early stage production capabilities. They are already producing the squareback kit top for the SUV kit they just need to produce more of them for this Cargo Kit option.

The cargo topper probably wouldn't have the sunroof either. The picture shows it with a roof rack. I think they should offer it with side windows, like a typical camper shell.

I really hope there a variant of the cargo cover that has some side windows, like a traditional pickup bed-cap. I couldn't tell if they just put the wrap over the side or it'd have full on plastic panels. I really just don't want the sunroof on either version. My Element has the top cargo sunroof thing like that and it just cooks back-seat passengers.

In videos they call the two pieces on the back of the pickup cab as the "partition" (lower part) the "back glass" or "halo" (upper part).

I just want the lower part -- either the original partition or a replacement partition that installs there if that one can't be kept there when the shell is installed.

I mention this because a proper Cargo Kit might have a front-of-bed safety partition that goes to the roof.

This was shown before the official release date of 4/24/25. I thought they were going to release the slant back as a cargo top too. This could just be wrapped over the glass, I don’t know. Someone even mentioned the rear window on the slant back doesn’t open. I don’t know about that either.

Oh I see what you mean. I agree, your idea would be much more doggy friendly.

Yeah that’s interesting since I think the Fastback will be a popular SUV kit option but when it comes to a cargo kit I feel like the slightly greater storage offered by the Squareback makes more sense.

are you sure it is a sunroof - transparent panel? I was under the impression it was just a removable panel, not transparent.
I would like a sunroof option main cabin area. That has been discussed in other threads.
What I would prefer is shell-only with a front-of-bed partition.

Just the shell. No seats or rollbar.

Dogs will ride back there.
me too

The pictures I've seen, the rear removable panel is solid, not transparent.

I like that the panel is removable, but I suspect I’d keep it in place for the dogs.
