Is there official word on where Slate stands on "Right to Repair"?

The battery is going to wear out faster than most of this stuff. Tires yes, brakes maybe. My 2013 F-150 still has the original brakes and I'm still on my 2nd set of tires.

Is there official word on where Slate stands on "Right to Repair"?

Slate already stated it will open source this truck so right to repair is pretty much there. Bigger question is what is there to repair? Any battery maintenance is off limits unless you like high voltage therapy. And it's highly unlikely you'll be pulling the motor to rebuild it like your old...

    Seats comfort / quality

I would expect basic seats of good durable quality and basic comfort to keep it in line with their utilitarian goal for this truck. I would be happy if it had a manual lumbar support

Double Din Car Stereo Aftermarket Head Unit / Radio Capable (confirmed by Slate CEO)

Since there is so much chatter about installing radios Slate might just surprise us and produce it with a hidden antenna under the plastic roof panel that we can just plug our radio into

Is ~150 mile range adequate for a fleet vehicle ?

Depends on many factors. You should only charge these batteries to 80% which means 120 miles. Below 32 is May only be half that which will still work for many businesses. Larger battery would be better.

100K+ Reservations for Slate Truck already! (as of May 12, 2025)

Never said I wasn't going to get one just frustrated that Slate, a forward thinking company, went completely backwards on their battery decision. Also discovered at the same time how backwards we are as a country to allow China to advance light years ahead of us in this technology. Is...

100K+ Reservations for Slate Truck already! (as of May 12, 2025)

Cybertruck was also at least 2 years behind schedule and people just gave up on it. Elon also promised a starting price of about $40k and it was released (late) at over $60k. Let's hope history doesn't repeat itself

100K+ Reservations for Slate Truck already! (as of May 12, 2025)

Didn't they say they were only going to produce around 150k per year? In another week or so they will have sold out the first year of production. So glad I got my reservation in

Thoughts/insights on exterior tampering / parts theft?

This is an older thread but this idea just popped in my head. If you live in an area where theft is a concern you could always fill in the center hex head slot with something like bondo or mega metal in a tube and then paint over it with nail polish. If you ever need to remove it, knock the...

Will headlight bulbs be LED, halogen or incadescent

It won't be an option. They are getting this down to the fewest part numbers as possible. Rear tail light is a single part number that you just flip to fit either side. Headlights will be the same way.

Bigger may not be better when it comes to the battery.

Slates battery decision will be what kills this truck. When it debuted everyone only saw a small 2 door, low priced truck that could be customized and was something we never seen before. The day it was released and we all watched that 30 minute video NOTHING was mentioned about the battery...

Bigger may not be better when it comes to the battery.

"The Government would need to wake up"? Yeah, that's not happening. They were more worried about "Woke Up". Glad that's coming to and end (for now) Same reason other countries still have small Diesel trucks. Not in the good old US of A. I'm a lot of ways we really are a backwards country

Bigger may not be better when it comes to the battery.

If it were an LFP battery then 2x a week would make it last close to 60 years. Let that sink in. And people don't understand why EV's in the US are not as popular as other countries. I'm starting to remember all the reasons I swore I would never drive an EV. A "Made in the US" EV anyway...

    NMC -vs- LFP Batteries

After my YouTube/Google EV battery education it is very clear to me that China is light years ahead of us in EV's. LFP should be the standard and MNC is the very best we can do? These batteries suck, sorry to say. We should just admit defeat and let China start importing their EV's so we have...

Bigger may not be better when it comes to the battery.

After a little research and some basic math, you should only charge an MNC battery to 80% (120 miles). On average MNC batteries loose up to 30% of their capacity after 10 years (84 mile range) and, loose about 40% below 32 degrees (50.4 miles) Worst case scenario for the bigger battery is...

    NMC -vs- LFP Batteries

Slate will use NMC batteries and after discovering the differences I don't know why they made that decision. Just to highlight a few concerns: NMC batteries will generally only charge for up to 2,000 cycles compared to 10,000 cycles for LFP. NMC batteries should only be charged to 80% (120...
