Is FORD Preparing to Release a SLATE Competitor?

The new EV model for Ford will be architectured around cheaper and lower density LFP batteries. The good news is that battery production at Ford won't start until next year, meaning that Slate will still maintain a strategic advantage if deliveries can start late 2026 as promised. I think it...

FB Video: I don't think they have engineered the rear hatch/window yet.

I recall my first GM car - 1982 Chevy - had rear window defroster wires. Earlier cars had that noisy fan that never worked well šŸ™‚.

FB Video: I don't think they have engineered the rear hatch/window yet.

Not trying to oversimplify the hinge mechanism, but I think it would be fairly straightforward to install ā€œspring loaded hingesā€ that can lift the glass panel automatically when the glass is unlatched. The rear glass would also need defrosting wires embedded inside, so there needs to be a...

Here you go. The rear glass tilts up and out of the way in this video! TFL now.

FB Video: I don't think they have engineered the rear hatch/window yet.

Agreed, that was my reaction as well. How can you load large objects in the rear SUV configuration with that fixed glass panel just waiting to get smashed. Makes no sense to me. Don't think it's too complex to engineer a hinge mechanism design with a strut to lift that glass out of the way...

Single DIN is actually a better fit in a 90s mini truck that the Slate borrows from.

Frunk power outlet in action - cooking up eggs (video)

Does anyone else see the irony in this? ICE vehicles with problematic catalytic converters can emit a rotten egg odor. Now we can all enjoy Slate and Eggs in the morning.

Secret Slatelet dash badge page - download 3D print Slatelet

Wondering if the release of Slatelet files will promote sales of small home 3D printers. I have access and experience with large format 3D printers at work so I never got involved with a home setup. Prices have been falling in recent years, and a decent printer now runs about $750.

Is the timing of Slate's rollout in Winter 2026 a good decision?

Having experience with EVs, I am questioning Slate's decision to begin deliveries in the winter months. As EV owners know all too well, extreme cold weather conditions are very harsh on range and battery efficiency. This being the first EV purchase for many, I think a winter rollout will not...

What kind of performance upgrades do you think will be available for the Slate?

While the concept is interesting, I don’t think we’ll see ā€˜Slate’ and ā€˜performance’ in the same sentence anytime soon. Expect upgrades to be purely cosmetic. Large wheels and a 2ā€ lift will fit the bill for me.

Delivery and Service Partner announcement coming soon / Warranty period

If Carvana is selected as the delivery center, how cool would it be to see your Slate coming down the vending machine! It would be recorded by every new owner, and I can envision a website setup where you can upload your video on delivery day. It can also be hosted on this forum. I think it...

Are you installing an anti-theft alarm / security system?

Well for starters, someone can break in and steal your tablet. Or other stuff. It does happen and happened to me. Wouldn’t you think an alarm is a good idea? I don’t think the panic alarm doubles as a theft alarm under these circumstances.

Are you installing an anti-theft alarm / security system?

There’s no question that parking your Slate on a public road or parking lot will attract lots of attention in the first few months (years?) of ownership … at least until it becomes more popular. What are your plans for installing some kind of traditional security system, other than a dash...

I hate the dashboard!! (and I propose a redesign)

Profoundly true statement. Name any other modern vehicle with in-dash modular spaces for stuff like speakers or electronics like this. I think we should all remain patient and optimistic in what the aftermarket brings to the table. It could get wildly creative.

Article: Slate’s Truck was Designed to Break - And for You to Fix It (w/ Slateforums.com mention by Slate Auto)

Well said. I'm sure the CAD and FEA designers took all this into consideration when designing for crash safety. Makes you think twice before putting anything 'dangerous' in the frunk. That cavity does in fact add a nice buffer to the crumple zones.
