Excellent point. The fact is, Slate is better insulated against tariffs on steel and aluminum as it uses about half of that content compared to most other vehicles, thanks to its composite body panels. The design decision to use composites was made long before tariffs was a thing, and it turned...
Although many folks seem to like the factory steelies, including myself, I think a wheel upgrade and 20ā tires is a personal must have for a more rugged look.
Every time I see them, I canāt help be reminded of āspace saver spare tires.ā Just a full sized version. lol.
Your utility company provides the āsuper off peakā rates typically between the hours of 10 pm and 6 am. That rate applies to KWh consumed, both 120V and 240V. I think the point you are trying to make is that itās more efficient to charge using 240v since it will all be consumed in a single...
I remain skeptical regarding the acoustic quality of the front facing dash mounted speakers. The plastic shell behind the cavity will likely resonate at low frequencies and sound buzzy and distorted at moderate volume. I would like to see sound dampening material lining the cubbies. If Slate...
Excellent point. The costs to build, lease, and maintain fancy dealerships with a showroom, service center, "amenities," etc. are inevitably pushed back to the customer. Amazing how creative they get with port installed options, dealer options, and option bundles that can't be singularly...
I have PSEG. They offer a āsuper off peak rateā from 10 pm to 6 am, which is about half of the standard rate, perfect for ev charging. Itās a 3 tiered plan with 3 levels: peak, off peak, and super off peak.
But woefully, there is a downside. The peak rate under this plan is 3 pm to 7 pm, when...
Iāve asked many friends, associates, and colleagues if they ever heard of the Slate truck. Surprisingly, many of them are car buffs, and well acquainted with everything automotive. Based on my personal experience, only 2 out of ~ 20 people I queried ever heard of Slate. As a startup business...
Anyone currently owning an ev on this thread can relate. There are always the unexpected little errands to the drug store, Loweās, Lotto š, fast food , etc. and typical minor emergencies that pop up daily. If your driving habits are that like my spouse, you make separate trips instead of...
Prediction- over half of the population who gets the standard range battery will deeply regret their decision. Once you live with the truck on a daily basis, it will just become an extra chore on your already long list. The $4.K you 'saved' on delivery day will long be forgotten; and you can't...
I typically have good posture and proper seating position while driving. The other day I received a few warnings on my Lexus;
"Sit Up, Pay Attentionā and āDriver inattentive.ā This is part of Toyotaās ādriver safety senseācamera / IR detection system along with many other features.
So yes, my...
Just stumbled upon this from Car Gurus, which typically does excellent auto reviews. Nothing really new here, except that this blue open air
design is quite eye-catching.

Agreed, one thing Slate has done rather well is refocus the demand for EVs, at a time when other OEMs (e.g. Toyota) were pulling back and looking to Hybrid technology. The recent repeal of the EV tax incentive was evidence of this. Now it appears the rest of the auto industry is retooling...
I think it's a safe bet that we'll see competitive small EV truck offerings from Tesla, Chevy, KIA, and Hyundai to challenge the Slate in the next couple of years.
I'm sure that traditional automotive OEMs are monitoring Slate's rollout very closely and will be vying for a piece of the action...
While I like the idea of the DIY aero body kits, it doesn't scream "performance" on a vehicle that does zero to 60 in 8 seconds.
But I would still install it anyway as it looks cool and would help differentiate it from all other blank Slates. It does more for the looks than a simple wrap.
