Were you first drawn to the Slate itself or the headline price?

Creating a poll to determine whether you were drawn to the Slate for its looks or the price. Let’s be honest. I added a few other possible responses.

How does the Slate turn on?

Tesla no longer provides key fobs with new vehicles, although you can order them as options. Instead you get a set of key cards that you can slip in your wallet. Once authenticated your phone is the main key. I give the key card to the service guys as a valet key. And you can’t loose šŸ˜‰ a fob...

How does the Slate turn on?

I believe that slot in the dash is just a convenient ā€˜place holder’ for the key with no functionality. I would rather just leave the key in my pocket so it’s not left behind when I leave. Most likely you will get a ā€˜key left behind’ alert on your app, and won’t be able to lock it. That’s how...

How does the Slate turn on?

There is no start button. Get in, fasten belt, select a gear and off you go.

    Slate portfolio speculation

When I heard that term ā€˜portfolio’ in the video, I thought Slate was referring to add on accessories and customization options. They need to get the basic platform in the hands of customers before they consider any variations. Hence the term ā€˜Slate is listening’ means they need real world...

Slate's Entire Marketing Campaign is Completely Wrong

I totally see your point, but I don’t consider a few ā€˜low budgetā€˜ videos lasting about 15 seconds on social media networks as a serious marketing campaign. Let’s wait for a real TV commercial perhaps on Motor Trend TV if they really want to reach out in a big way to auto enthusiasts. But that...

Aptera-style solar panels in SUV option.

I apologize I misinterpreted your acronym for ā€˜LIā€˜ as lithium iron Instead of Lithium Ion. I studied chemistry many years ago but still recall the symbol for iron is Fe. Thanks for setting me straight!

Aptera-style solar panels in SUV option.

Slate is not using lithium ion batteries, they are NMC.

“The Slate Truck Will Fail” - (Or will it?)

Actually, the Warsaw plant is 1.4 M SF not 1.0M Plenty of space for assembly of 140K units per year.

DIY vs OFT (Open For Theft)

Nice idea, but a cosmetic accessory would not be a theft deterrent.

DIY vs OFT (Open For Theft)

While I like this option, it will undoubtedly add extra cost to the base truck. However, I think it will work best as an after-sale accessory for owners who want extra security who live and work in areas where vandalism is a concern.

    Dash cam kit

Slate has far more pressing priorities than integrating a dashcam into their app, which is still in development. In addition, it’s not a hotly desired option for a majority of customers. I have aftermarket solutions in my vehicles and they work perfectly well. The OEM (non Tesla) solutions...

Suggestion: DIY Delivery Center @ Slate Plant in IN

Yes, I think there was some discussion about taking delivery at regional or service centers. But once your Slate goes on the auto carrier the freight charge will likely be added to the invoice.

Did the "big bill" just end EV Tax Credits for Slates? [WARNING: NO POLITICS]

I'm not 100% certain but I believe the title was modified by the Administrator to add the "No Politics" warning. This is in accordance with the Ts and Cs of the forum rules.

Suggestion: DIY Delivery Center @ Slate Plant in IN

Scout Motors recently announced that "factory delivery" will be available in 2027 at its assembly plant in Blythewood, S.C. I think Slate Auto should take notice and offer the same in Warsaw IN. They should consider requesting a waiver with local government representatives that currently bans...

Slate’s BYO Infotainment and the possible issue of Temperatures.

Since you mentioned it, cabin overheat protection is definitely a nice option. I doubt that Slate will have this feature. The only drawback is that it adds a drain to the battery. I’ve been doing fine without it. Instead I just use a windshield sun blind and it’s just as effective without...

Slate will manufacture its seats in house at Warsaw factory

The law requires all passengers have a restraint system such as seat belts. So at a minimum Slate would need to add belts for the middle jump seat. Regarding air bags, you are correct. Not currently required by law.

Slate will manufacture its seats in house at Warsaw factory

Great idea, but no airbag for middle passenger might be a non starter.

Rising used car prices is good news for Slate!

If Slate fully adopts the Tesla direct to consumer model then they can offer ā€œusedā€ or ā€œdemoā€ models for sale on their website. Using Tesla as an example, they offer a huge inventory of used trade in or demos at very attractive discounted prices. If Slate offers a free wrap to give a used...

Expected price now "Mid-Twenties" for Slate truck

Slate, or any startup for that matter, needs to build credibility with consumers. A sure way to lose it is to not honor their ā€œmid-twentiesā€œ advertised price. We are not dealing with established automakers like Ford or Tesla who have burned us in the past with the Lightning or Cybertruck.
