2008 ford ranger
I currently have a 2008 ford ranger that is starting to show its age, and was looking for a new truck but as well all know small compact trucks are all pretty much gone, you pretty much have a Tacoma and newer rangers.

I really really want the slate to be my blessing and solution to my needs but I am really worried about being an early adopter.

anyone els feel this way? And are in a similar predicament?

yes early adoptions always has trade offs the specs for the 2008 ford ranger are (and take this with a grain of salt)
143-207hp
1,260 payload
5600 for towing
250-440 miles of range of one tank but you know how much you currently get

the slate
201 hp
1,400 payload
1,000 towing
150-240 miles of range

that is just looking at the spec sheets and all that now if your looking for something similar yah slate fits very well with the bigger battery for me I'm getting the slate as a second truck even though its the first ill have bought my self in my own name because i really like the customizability compared to my f-150 and I'm sure slate is really putting in the effort to make the truck very reliable from my poking's and questions i have asked them

I see a lot of people saying the slate will be there secondary car/truck and that also makes me worry as I am not fortunate enough to be able to afford two cars, my plan is this would be my daily driver and trip to homedepot DIYer truck maybe pick up a few side jobs here and there.

I don’t travel a lot usually keep it around town but who know that could always change

that's pretty good for the slate i mean i cant seen much more unless you need to tow a lot and if that's the case uhaul trucks are not to much to rent and more and more ev charging stations are poping up i mean look at the app a better route planner just to see if the range end is good for you they recently added the slate

I think you've got some reasonable concerns. My wife and I were both early adopters with our Kia EV6 and F150 lightning respectively. It's been smooth sailing for us (knock on wood 🪵), but I would have thought twice about either vehicle if it were our sole ride. And that's from manufacturers with a dealer/service center within 10 miles from where we live.

There are a lot of unknowns with Slate. I think you should keep the Ranger around if you wanted to get a Slate truck. If you can't do that then buying one seems overly risky to me.

It sounds like a Slate might be reasonable for you based on your posts, but I can't help but notice that your profile's "Vehicles" list says "GTI", and it's a bit weird since your first thread is about owning a Ford Ranger.

I don't know your circumstances, and I'm not holding you to any obligation to give out accurate/detailed information under that profile info field, but there have been a few suspicious accounts lately (people answering their own posts as if they forgot to switch alts), and yours is five days old.

It just looks a bit odd that you're talking about not being able to have a second car if you trade your Ranger for a Slate...when you apparently also have a GTI.

OP, as a Maverick owner, I can attest that it's a pretty darn capable truck. Easily a solid replacement for your 2008 Ranger. I had a 2010 Ranger, and it's night and day. I got the XLT Ecoboost with Luxury package and AWD, and it's been super reliable for 3 years and 36,000 miles.

That said, if you really want to go small, it's the Slate. The Maverick is 200" long compared to 189 for my old Ranger single cab. And of course, there's the new Ford BEV small truck next summer, for pretty close to the Slate in price, while delivering far more content.

Don't mean to set off the Slate guys. I'm keeping my eye on a Slate, but I'm cautious enough with a startup to let somebody else take the first leap. Meanwhile, I would happily steer friends and family into a Maverick and feel pretty comfortable doing it.

Always gotta be someone who has to interject with negativity and cant just help a fellow human. Why do you care what I drive? What does it really matter?

My 2005 Tacoma is also long in the tooth. Early adopter anxiety is valid, but I’ve been bitching about the lack of options for a small basic truck for too long to not jump on the Slate when it’s available. I’ll definitely be taking one for the team.

The Slate fits almost every criteria I’m looking for. The only thing that will take some getting used to is the smaller bed.

My condolences for your GTI. I only wished to raise what I considered a reasonable concern about contradictory information so there would not be a lasting misunderstanding.

I apologize if that made you feel unwelcome, and I would be happy to share what information I can if you have further questions about the Slate Truck.

Yes I don’t understand why they didn’t do a 6 foot bed. That is a big time bummer for me. And I agree the slate almost seems like everything I want on paper.
