OK...I'm following. That works at the house, but without native wifi in-truck, wouldn't that application only apply within 100m of your wifi (or will you not worry about your sojourns around the volcano base?).
yes, I should have noted. My intention is to have own wifi module for this purpose.Either something like a Netgear hotspot or my AT&T Mobley

I am really doubting whether panel theft is going to be a thing. Over the last 30 years I’ve owned 3 different pick-ups that I could remove the tailgate on in less than 30 seconds without tools. In those 30 years, I’ve had exactly zero tailgates stolen. There are a lot of parts on trucks that are removable with simple hand tools and they are NOT commonly stolen. I don’t think these panels will be any different.

This talk of wiring has me wondering:

Has anyone seen inside the fuse box?

I think the “white truck in Warsaw” thread shows the cover.

I was referring to the looks of it. As far as stealing. Anything will be stolen if there is a demand for it. Im not worried about it. I'll put an interior camera and tracker in it. Might even be a future option.
This, the anti-theft of the slate is going to come down to how cheap Slate can make replacement parts. It's not as much worth the hassle of stealing a body panel off of a Slate if you can get a plastic fender for $50. My dad's had trim ripped off his LandCruiser because it's getting hard to find 100-series spares.

You never know what part is going to become a 'must have' part. Off the top of my head, I can remember...

1st Gen Porsche Cayenne Headlights (Heard they emitted a lot of UV for... growing plants)
Pickup Tailgates
Suburban / Tahoe 3rd Row Seats (no idea why on this one)
2nd Gen Honda Fit Sport Wheels (Uncommon OEM size of 4x100 16'' wheels)
Prius / Element / F-Series Catalytic Converters (These three are some of the easiest to access)

Who knows, maybe someone will figure out the slate plastic taillight cover makes for a good cheese grater and we'll be getting only that lifted from all of our trucks!

Edit: Don't forget when people were lifting hood ornaments for necklaces.

If someone does have a panel stolen, I'm sure there will be DIY videos on sculpting a new one out of cardboard and duct tape.
3d print for sure

People have had tailgates stolen in recent years, probably because the tailgates were expensive ones.

I would be surprised if there isn't a power wire at minimum. Cars are mandated to have a camera in the back. It's only a matter of time before a forward-facing camera is also required.

For the good of the children, of course. ;)
Pedestrian Identification is listed as one of the safety features, I'm not sure what this requires, but it may be a forward facing camera already.
With plastic body panels, I think it is possible that people will drill holes and mount cameras with only a lens exposed, and do a DIY sentry mode. You could probably get lenses and cameras that would mount through a panel and seal it.
