The Slate representatives I talked to today at the Olympia viewing stated that the service partner and delivery partner will be announced in the next few weeks. Yes, they are two different entities according to the reps. The reps talked like they actually knew who the partners are, but of course would not say specifically. I live in a small town south of Olympia and asked them how far I might have to travel for service. They said that the locations are probably somewhere we visit regularly no matter where we live.

I also overheard one rep tell someone that the Slate warranty would be 8 years or 120,000 miles, whichever comes first. I hope I heard that correctly!

I am 6' 2" and was surprised at how much room I had in the cab. It's bigger than it looks like on your viewing device with more leg room than any foreign car I have been in.

I've been beating the "Walmart" drum since the very beginning. Not that I'm a fan of Walmart, but the puzzle pieces fit. What other auto service place do people "visit regularly"?

I've seen it commented that an 8 year 100k mile warranty on the battery is federally required. The Code of Federal Regulations defines a passing battery as holding 70% charge after 8 years. See sections E and H.2 here:

Walmart makes sense logistically, but, I do not think I would take mine there for anything major, and if it is minor, ill just do it myself thanks. Id like to see them partner with i.e. Firestone, Goodyear, Christian Brothers, ETC. my local Walmart struggles to get oil changes and tire repairs done right.

Yah if it’s Walmart I’d rather not my ma took it there for a oil change the not only striped the bolt but also blue lock tighted it and guess who had to fix it yup me took almost 3 hours finally I said can’t save the bolt so locking pliers and a hammer later and I’m more Machaniclly inclined due to restoring a old 72 galaxie from scratch I’d do it my self unless the eventual 4x4 comes out but where else could it be let’s we our options are

1) Walmart
2)Costco
3) maybe amco
4) at least that I know do more them just tires and oil that people would regularly go to

I could see speedway motors as a off shoot for parts or summit racing also for parts since they have physical locations could you imagine if Amazon just said yah we are now launching a auto repair shop that would be neet but unlikely hell if Amazon opened a store like Walmart might give Walmart a run for there money

I cant remember where I saw it, but I remember seeing that someone connected with Carvana was an investor. If im not mistaken they have nationwide locations and shops for their used cars and would make for a decent repair shop and also an avenue to upfit and delivery new trucks to customers.

This combined with Walmart/other automotive repairfacilities would make for a great solution for most people.

Not quite what I would say is a great coverage map, but it covers most of the populated areas.

Hmmm I do wonder how big a net work net they are making Walmart would be the largest I bet though

I really can’t see Walmart associating with anything remotely related to Amazon, and the Bezos relationship would qualify as related to Amazon to me.

Oh man, I think we need a forum wide AI filter to translate @1yeliab_sufur1's runons. 😂 Took me twice as long to read that than to copy/paste/read in ChatGPT. Here's the translation for anyone else, lol!

Yeah, if it’s Walmart, I’d rather not. My ma took her car there for an oil change—they not only stripped the bolt, but also used blue Loctite on it. And guess who had to fix it? Yup, me. Took almost three hours. Finally, I said, “Can’t save the bolt,” so after locking pliers and a hammer, I got it done.

I’m more mechanically inclined now, thanks to restoring an old ’72 Galaxie from scratch. Honestly, I’d do it myself unless something like a full 4x4 build comes up. But where else could it be? Let’s see—our options are:
  1. Walmart
  2. Costco
  3. Maybe AAMCO
  4. At least places that do more than just tires and oil—where people would regularly go

That would be neat, but unlikely. Still, if Amazon opened a store like that, it might give Walmart a run for their money.

After looking into things further, I feel that Slate will lean into the investor connection through Mark Walter, CEO of Guggenheim Partners, and investor in Carvana. Carvana uses a third party organization in SilverRock (https://www2.yourvehiclecare.com/process) for their warranty work utilizing a network of repair shops. SilverRock looks to use Firestone, PepBoys, Mikeke, etc., etc. for their network. This could instantly make Slate the vehicle that can have warranty work done at more locations than any other vehicle.

I'd put money on this outcome over anything to do with Walmart, and honestly it would be so much better.
