There is a physical key that will unlock the doors. If you take that with you you could leave the truck up and running the air or heat and use the key to unlock on your return.
Are we sure about that? The photos I saw from this weekend's event don't show a keyhole in the doors.

Only the driver’s door is keyed. You may have been looking at a picture of the passenger door.
I was, but we were also told both sides were identical. I guess that was another change.

And from what I am reading in above replies - to leave truck in locked, but accessory mode -is there a special button for that?
its necessary to have sufficient Battery strength - and that's the truck's battery or the 12V battery? - to be able to leave accessory mode on for 30 -45 minutes?

Maybe Slate
I aske Slate about this, and they said if the fob is inserted the ac, or heat can stay on . Problem that i see would be how do lock it with the key fob inside? I did not realize at the time there is no actual key. I am pretty sure this where you need the telematics module.
The end of the fob comes off, and has the metal key. So I guess it might be possible to insert the "car half" into the dash, and keep the "key half" with you, then lock the doors with the metal key.

Now someone could break a window and take the truck, since the "car half" is all that's needed to drive it. But then they get to meet your dog. Hope it's earning it's kibble.

🤔. Not until they produce the final version, but there have been photos published with key locks on the doors.

I've read that each Slate will come with two key fobs and two blade keys.
So you could leave the key fob in the vehicle with AC on and driver door locked.
Go surf with the blade key in your wetsuit and come back to unlock the door.
Doggie smiles and wags her tail.

Agree. As mentioned, I guess someone could break a window to gain access and drive off, but there's always risks.

Some vehicles will unlock even manually locked doors if the fob is inside. Their only solutions are a Faraday bag or removing the fob battery.

I’m believing that Chris Barman has an eye on the solution

Pet Mode is the same as On Mode without the ability to shift out of Park.

I wouldn't leave a pet in an occupied vehicle in a public parking lot. Even if the vehicle is cool, an average Joe, Karen, or cop may not have the brain power to process that and try to be a hero.
