Just an observation....

People want their favorite feature included by default.

It's human nature.

Every buyer pays extra for the feature whether they use it or not.

Slate Automotive is laser-focused on building a factory and shipping a product.

The OG Slate Truck will be for Early Adopters who accept its limitations.

Heck, some of those Early Adopters will even embrace the fact that it will have Missing Features they won't need to pay for.

Exactly. awd/4wd with a bigger battery will probably be the NEXT thing slate does. As soon as design is finalized and production is going, the design team will probably switch to that as the second model. But first they are concentrating on getting the FIRST model out. They seem to have plenty of people who want that first model, and if they can reach a profit like they claim, they will probably expand production rapidly, and then expand offerings rapidly.

Wonder if the 4wd/awd version be the focus of a second production line?

A second production facility has already been mentioned, probably depends on how fast they get one online, and how different that model is. There might just be some frame and wiring differences, with much of the line shared.

Lots. Just....lots.
Ive been driving in snow my whole life. Even lived in the Rockies above the snow line for a few years. If you need 4x4 to get around...... stay home. 2WD is fine, front or rear, if you're careful and know how to handle the vehicle. Don't go off road - no mudding or rock crawling. But normal driving around? You're fine. Your grandparents would be laughing at this discussion point as they drove their rear wheel Nomad station wagon all over, year round, with 5 kids and 2 dogs bouncing around in the back seats wrapped in a cloud of cigarette smoke, no seat belts, towing a Vagabond trailer. Ask my Dad to tell you the stories.

I also would have loved to have seen your face as I passed you on my lowered bobber motorcycle 15 years ago with snow chains on it heading over Donner Pass mid winters. Ironically, while chains are required for safety reasons, there's nothing saying you cant take a motorcycle (with chains) through the mountains and over the pass in snow. Crazy what they leave to common sense these days.....

I just need a small truck I can move 'small' things regularly around town. 5-20 minute drives usually. Plywood, sheet rock, riding mower, bags of concrete, other car's drivetrains, a half yard of dirt, a Christmas tree, a king size bed, 20 Servers (basically big PCs), a fridge. Up until recently I was using a base model 2003 Civic with a 1.6L Automatic and 240k miles on it and a small trailer. I even pulled an 18 foot motor boat across town with it a few times. Then one night some lady ran a minivan into it and the trailer while it was parked next to my house. So now I'm looking for something better to do the same work. Why do I need 2 motors??
