This Video interested me, this guy seems to get what the Slate is all about.
One of my favorite EV channels out there! JIM'S EVS researches every episode really well - and he LOVES doing EV BUNK BLASTER episodes to passionately Blow Up all the Falsehoods and Made Up **** there is out there about EVs. He is a long-time BOLT EUV owner - and puts on lots of daily miles. (and does informative episodes on EV charging as well). BOLT EUV is the one I have seriously been looking at until SLATE came along (the longer wait though is rough!).
My biggest issue with the Bolt (and he has major issues too) is with GM and how they and their dealers treat their customers. The nerve to put out a new EV - and then yank it away 👎. JIMS EV's covers the same issues I had in the beginning with the SLATE - and proceeds to knock them down with well-researched info...Research on the major principals / design team and their impressive resumes: WOW! (and that includes their close ties and working relationship with Sandy Munro - a total legend in the auto business).
SLATE has actually been around since 2022 - (as Re:Build then Re:Car) and then went into stealth mode until 2025 - while they got the design refined via Alpha and Beta models as well as a series of impressive FUNDING rounds (A, B, and C). This car truly seems to be a passion project for the founders of SLATE and their engineering and design team. All inspired by HOW TO REBUILD US Auto manufacturing and give Americans quality affordable (and REPAIRABLE) cars again.
The MOTOMAN video yesterday with EMPLOYEE #1 Rod Copes (now Chairman) revealed a lot on what a quality team they have put together and what they are trying to do (truly Revolutionary!).

Also - JIMS EVs towards end of episode - reveals that he has been RESERVATION HOLDER since MAY 2025 - LOVE IT! and PRE-ORDERED a SLATE on JULY 1👍

Maybe Slate
I just wish positive videos didn’t feel compelled to have negative titles - a turn off for me. Usually I won’t look at it until others make favorable comments.
Betteridge's law of headlines is an adage that states: "Any headline that ends in a question mark can be answered by the word no." It is based on the assumption that if the publishers were confident that the answer was yes, they would have presented it as an assertion; by presenting it as a question, they are not accountable for whether it is correct or not.

And youtube has elevated it to an artform of clickbait.

As I have elevated my ability to NOT click.

One reason I pushed through the burn out was to get a spidey-sense of the people behind the company. I can't remember all the names of the employees in the videos, but they all impressed me as having authentic passion for the project. I worked at 2 large companies and a startup. I've seen the BS. I've seen how VCs and a board of directors treat a startup that went sour.

I could probably write pages on my comparisons but I'd bore everyone. I'll just leave it at this. Barman and Keipper are both experienced high level engineers that have experience talking to the public. They have the ability to put on a BS show, but I don't get that from them. And then this interview with Copes was amazing. His banter with the offscreen CJ W. (also in some other videos) was really unique and absolutely nothing like I've seen before, especially at my startup. It oozed passion, fun, and serious work. I saw none of that at my startup. The board was an invisible group of jet setters drinking wine and eating cheese. And that's about it.

I'll end with this. In the latest set of videos, one of the drivers was a "lower level" engineer who clearly was not someone any of my other companies would let out in public. He occasionally even contradicted himself, and was clearly nervous. Companies don't let engineers like that out of their cage unless they are authentic. That guy was me. I always wanted to have a chance like that to show off my product. I was never given it. It always went to the slick talking PIO (public information officer) who knew nothing, but could sure put on a BS show.

Negativity in the headline will draw in the people that already have formed a negative opinion, they like it when someone agrees with their opinion. It’s a trap to get them to hear how wrong they are.

Guess I’m showing my lack of marketing prowess..

One interesting thing to note about the Jim's EV Adventures video is his prediction regarding range.

He thinks 205 miles is a conservative estimate.

But here's the truth. Slate is offering one
battery configuration right now. 205
miles is their current estimate and it
has not gone through full EPA testing
yet. Here's my honest take. Based on how
LFP batteries tend to perform in real
world conditions and based on what I've
seen across the industry, I think the
real number is probably going to be
higher. I won't put a specific figure on
that. I think around 220 somewhere in
that neighborhood. But I would not be
surprised if real-world slate owners are
consistently seeing above that 205 mile
estimate.

Well, hopefully it'll convince a few people. I feel like the general practice can create the perception of widespread negativity by the majority of people (statistically) who won't click at all, though.

I'm confident that 150 was a conservative estimate on the NMC, too. Capacity doesn't have a linear relationship with range, but my rough calculator math says with an equal mile/kWh ratio, the original (52.7kWh?) battery would've gotten over 160 miles. The upgrade was definitely the right choice, regardless...and real-world use will probably be especially speed-dependent, given the Slate's profile.

I like it when Slate seems to underpromise and overdeliver. It's a good practice to establish, whether it's for early production estimates or something they intend to keep up as a brand.

Well I must say I share your enthusiasm. Imagine my reaction when I discovered I was standing right next to Sandy in the audience! And I got to shake his hand and tell him what a huge fan I am!
